Tasha Smith was born on February 28, 1971, in Camden, New Jersey. Sidra Smith shares the exact same birthday, confirming the pair are identical twins. The twins were born to their mother Monique at what she has described as a very young age.

Sidra is technically the younger twin, with Tasha once joking that her sister kicked her out first so she could relax for a couple of minutes. Tasha has said that Sidra currently lives in Harlem. The sisters also grew up with a shared history that shaped who they became as adults in the entertainment industry.

Their mother struggled with drug addiction while the twins were growing up but has now been clean for more than 25 years. Tasha has spoken about how that experience shaped her outlook, saying that people are not defined by their mistakes but by what they are able to overcome.

Tasha Smith’s Acting Career Highlights

Tasha made her acting debut with a small role in the 1994 comedy ‘Twin Sitters’ and later starred in the NBC comedy series ‘Boston Common’ from 1996 to 1997. She also appeared alongside Tom Arnold in ‘The Tom Show’ on The WB. Her breakout years came through collaborations with Tyler Perry.

She eventually created Sidra Smith Casting, a company focused on ad campaigns and television commercials. Her first feature film, ‘A Luv Tale,’ was released in 1999 and won the Audience Award at the Hollywood Black Film Festival, starring MC Lyte, Tichina Arnold and Gina Ravera.

‘A Luv Tale’ tells a love story between two women and has become a cult classic within the LGBT community, with a series adaptation currently in development. The ‘A Luv Tale’ series officially debuted in 2021.

Sidra also produced the 2013 NAACP Image Award winning documentary ‘Free Angela and All Political Prisoners,’ which was directed by Shola Lynch and executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, who Sidra personally brought onto the project. Her additional credits include producer work on ‘Daredevil’ in 2003 and ‘Time of Essence’ in 2023.
