Tom Holland has spent the better part of a decade building one of the most consistently profitable careers in modern Hollywood, largely anchored by a single franchise that’s managed to outperform nearly every other blockbuster property of its era. Few actors have managed to turn one recurring role into this level of sustained box office dominance quite the way Holland has with Spider-Man.

That dominance has only accelerated dramatically over the past several weeks, fueled by two massive releases hitting theaters almost simultaneously. Between Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Holland found himself climbing the all-time box office rankings at a pace that’s left industry watchers genuinely stunned.

That climb has now reached its peak. Tom Holland has officially become the highest-grossing actor of all time at the worldwide box office, surpassing Zoe Saldaña’s previous total of roughly $15.47 billion, according to figures reported by Variety India. Holland’s current total now stands at approximately $15.5 billion, with ‘Brand New Day’ alone contributing more than $2.4 billion worldwide, followed by ‘The Odyssey’s’ $1.4 billion global haul.

That milestone caps off an extraordinarily rapid ascent even by blockbuster standards. As recently as early August, Holland ranked sixth on the all-time lead actor list with roughly $13.66 billion in career grosses, sitting behind Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Pratt. He cleared all three of them within the span of about a month, powered almost entirely by two well-timed 2026 releases.

What makes Holland’s achievement particularly striking is just how few films it took him to get there compared to the actors he passed along the way. His per-film average as a lead actor sits at $622.1 million across 24 theatrical releases, the highest figure of anyone in the current top 10, comfortably ahead of Pratt’s $522.7 million and Saldaña’s $468.8 million average.

At just 30 years old, Holland is also the youngest actor to ever crack the top of this particular list, a distinction that stands out given how differently the two actors he just passed built their own totals. Saldaña, 47, and Johansson, 41, both accumulated their box office totals over decades-long careers spanning multiple franchises, while Holland reached the top largely on the strength of a single defining role paired with two perfectly timed releases this year.

Saldaña had held the top spot since January, when ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ pushed her past Johansson to claim the number one position with roughly $15.47 billion in career earnings. Her total was built primarily across four films that individually grossed more than $2 billion each, spanning both the ‘Avatar’ franchise and her Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances as Gamora.

Holland’s own path to the top has run almost entirely through Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, supplemented by his appearances in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ ‘Brand New Day’ alone marks his fourth solo Spider-Man film and seventh overall appearance within the Marvel universe, with the movie continuing to add to its worldwide total even as it remains in theaters.

Given that both of Holland’s record-breaking films are still actively playing in theaters worldwide, his lead over the rest of the field could continue growing in the immediate future. With more Marvel appearances widely expected in the years ahead, including additional Avengers installments, Holland appears well positioned to extend his hold on the top spot rather than simply passing through it briefly.

Whether Saldaña or Johansson eventually reclaim the top position remains an open question, particularly once their own franchises deliver new theatrical entries. For now, though, Holland’s remarkably efficient rise to the top of Hollywood’s all-time earnings chart stands as one of the more unexpected box office storylines of the year.
