New Look: ‘The Batman: Part II’ Set Photos Show Gotham Buried in Snow, and Fans Think Mr. Freeze Is Closer Than We Realize

Gotham City has never exactly been a warm place, but ‘The Batman: Part II’ is taking that idea more literally than fans expected. Since Matt Reeves’ sequel began rolling cameras earlier this year, nearly every leaked glimpse of the production has carried the same theme: ice, frost, and a city buried under snow.

Robert Pattinson is once again suiting up as Bruce Wayne, joined by returning cast members Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. New additions to the ensemble include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch, though Warner Bros. has kept their roles under tight wraps.

The latest evidence of that wintry direction comes from a fresh batch of set photos, this time showing multiple vehicles arriving on location already coated in snow and ice. The images, shared by fan account The Batman Saga News, add to a growing pile of proof that Gotham’s next chapter is going to look and feel colder than anything Reeves has shown audiences before.

This isn’t a one-off detail, either. Reeves first teased the sequel’s winter setting back in May with a Batmobile camera-test photo captioned “#SnowTires,” and subsequent set visits to Liverpool, Glasgow, and London have consistently turned up snow-dusted GCPD cruisers, SWAT vans, and a battle-damaged Batmobile drifting through fake snow at night. Reports have also tied the frozen setting to a flooded version of Gotham, giving the production’s icy aesthetic a possible in-story explanation.

Naturally, all that snow has reignited speculation that ‘The Batman: Part II’ is building toward a grounded take on Mr. Freeze, a villain Reeves has previously hinted he’d like to explore. Nothing has been confirmed, and plot details remain almost entirely locked down, but it’s hard to blame fans for connecting the dots every time another frost-covered vehicle shows up online.

Reports have suggested the film’s central storyline may instead revolve around the Dent family, with Two-Face, Hush, the Halloween Killer, and Phantasm floated as potential antagonists, or even a combination of them. Whatever the final villain lineup ends up being, the consistent winter imagery suggests the cold is doing more narrative heavy lifting than just setting a mood.

Beyond the weather, other set details have kept theory-crafters busy. Photos have also revealed Pattinson back in his Drifter disguise, this time navigating snowy terrain that adds a new physical obstacle to Bruce Wayne’s undercover alter ego, while production vehicles bearing the phrase “Semper Vigilans,” Latin for “always vigilant,” have fueled speculation about a possible working title.

The sequel’s road to release has been a long one. Originally dated for October 2026, it was pushed first to October 2027 and then again to February 18, 2028, giving Reeves extra time in post-production. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn addressed the lengthy turnaround directly, noting on Threads that a multi-year gap between franchise sequels is fairly typical in Hollywood.

With filming still underway across multiple UK locations, more snowy set photos are almost certainly on the way before ‘The Batman: Part II’ wraps. For now, fans will have to keep piecing together Gotham’s icy mystery one leaked photo at a time.
