‘MobLand’ Season 2 Debuts to a Perfect Critics’ Score on Rotten Tomatoes, and Tom Hardy’s Return Couldn’t Be Better Timed

Guy Ritchie and Tom Hardy have built a reputation for delivering stylish, high-octane crime dramas whenever they team up, and their collaboration on Paramount+’s gangster saga proved that formula translates just as well to television as it does to film. When the series first premiered in March 2025, it broke streaming records right out of the gate, instantly becoming one of the platform’s biggest new hits.

That breakout success set enormous expectations for a follow-up, and Paramount+ wasted little time capitalizing on the momentum, officially greenlighting a second season just weeks after the explosive first-season finale. Now, with ‘MobLand’ returning to screens, critics have already weighed in, and their verdict couldn’t be more emphatic.

‘MobLand‘ Season 2 has debuted to a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on early reviews, marking a significant jump from the show’s already solid 77% critical rating for its first season. The series returns on September 18, with the fractured Harrigan crime empire facing intense internal power struggles alongside aggressive new threats from international syndicates.

Hardy returns as Harry Da Souza, the brooding, street-smart fixer at the center of the Harrigan family’s criminal operations, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren reprising their roles as the unpredictable family heads Conrad and Maeve Harrigan. The returning ensemble also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Anson Boon, Lara Pulver, Jasmine Jobson, and Mandeep Dhillon, with Ophelia Lovibond and Johnny Flynn joining the cast in new recurring roles for the season.

Season 1 ended with the Stevenson war effectively settled, following Harry and Kevin killing Richie Stevenson and exposing family lawyer O’Hara Delaney. That resolution set the stage for Season 2’s shift toward internal fractures within the Harrigan empire itself, rather than simply pitting the family against an outside rival once again.

Rather than dropping the entire season at once for a weekend binge, Paramount+ is sticking with a traditional weekly rollout for Season 2, matching the approach used for the first season. The 10-episode season premieres September 18 and releases one new episode every Friday, with the season finale scheduled to land on November 20.

That pacing gives the Harrigan family’s escalating conflict room to simmer across the full run, rather than compressing the drama into a single viewing sitting. Series creator Ronan Bennett continues developing the show, which has built its identity around Ritchie’s signature style even as the day-to-day writing has largely come from Bennett’s team.

‘MobLand’s’ momentum extends well beyond Season 2 at this point. Paramount has officially confirmed the series has already been renewed for a third season, with Hardy set to return despite earlier reports of behind-the-scenes tension that had briefly fueled speculation about his potential departure. Brosnan has since confirmed to ScreenRant that filming on Season 3 will begin in November, giving fans concrete confirmation that the crime saga isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

That renewal news arrives on the heels of a genuinely impressive first-season viewership run. ‘MobLand’s’ premiere reached 2.2 million global viewers, a record for any Paramount+ series debut, and viewership climbed by 298% within its first week, ultimately making it the platform’s second most-watched series behind only ‘1923.’

What makes ‘MobLand’s’ success particularly notable is that it exists entirely outside the Taylor Sheridan-verse that dominates much of Paramount+’s original programming, including hits like ‘Landman,’ ‘Mayor of Kingstown,’ and ‘Tulsa King.’ Ritchie’s trademark stylistic flair, paired with Hardy’s magnetic lead performance, has carved out a distinct identity for the show within a crowded streaming landscape increasingly dominated by crime dramas.

With a perfect critics’ score heading into its sophomore premiere and a third season already locked in, ‘MobLand’ looks positioned to keep climbing as one of Paramount+’s flagship original series for the foreseeable future.
