New Look at ‘VisionQuest’ Reveals Paul Bettany’s Vision in a Retro World Full of Secrets

Marvel’s Disney+ slate has quietly become the franchise’s most reliable proving ground for reinventing its most emotionally complex characters, and few have gone through quite as many transformations as Vision. Since Paul Bettany’s android first debuted more than a decade ago, the character has died, been resurrected, split into two versions of himself, and spent years wrestling with fragmented memories of the life he once had.

That long, winding arc is finally reaching its conclusion. ‘VisionQuest‘ caps off a trilogy of Disney+ series that began with 2021’s ‘WandaVision’ and continued through 2024’s ‘Agatha All Along,’ with Bettany returning to lead the project as White Vision, the reanimated but memory-restored version of the character last seen flying off alone at the end of ‘WandaVision’s’ finale.

Marvel has now unveiled a fresh new look at the series, revealing key art that shows Vision seated calmly in a stylish, retro-inspired elevator, reading a newspaper in a scene that feels equal parts eerie and elegant. The image confirms the series will officially debut October 14, exclusively on Disney+, positioning it as the final major Marvel Television release of the year.

According to the show’s setup, Vision has been rebooted and has escaped those who once sought to weaponize him, going into hiding as he searches for new meaning. Looking for answers, he consults the artificial intelligence personas built into his own programming, including familiar MCU tech systems like F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., and J.A.R.V.I.S., while also being drawn into a storyline involving Thomas Shepard, a boy who may be the reincarnated version of Vision and Wanda’s son.

James Spader also returns to the franchise as Ultron, reprising his role from 2015’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ with the AI villain resurfacing as one of the personas Vision turns to during his search for identity. Reflecting on his character’s emotional journey, Bettany described the experience of playing Vision as an enormous joy over the years, noting during his D23 appearance that Vision has been an Avenger, a father, and a partner to Wanda, joking that having “made the ultimate sacrifice” and died “several times” has made long-term financial planning difficult, in comments shared via Marvel.

The supporting cast includes Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire, and James D’Arcy. Terry Matalas, best known for his work on ‘Star Trek: Picard,’ serves as showrunner, bringing his signature blend of character-driven drama and larger universe-expanding spectacle to the project.

The series was directed by Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali, and Matalas himself, with a writing team that includes Matalas alongside Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti, and Matthew Okumura. Filming took place at Pinewood Studios in London, running from March through late July, giving the production a fairly compact but focused shooting schedule.

‘VisionQuest’ will run for eight episodes, matching the scale of Marvel’s previous Disney+ offerings in this particular corner of the franchise. Set roughly one year after the events of ‘WandaVision,’ the series arrives at a point in the MCU timeline that falls after ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ but before both ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Thunderbolts,’ giving it a fairly specific window to work within.

Given how emotionally significant Vision’s story has been across the franchise’s television output, expectations are running high for this trilogy capper to deliver genuine closure on threads that have lingered since ‘WandaVision’ first aired back in 2021.

‘VisionQuest’ premieres October 14, exclusively on Disney+, giving fans just a few more weeks to speculate about exactly how Vision’s long, fragmented journey finally comes to a close.
