Horgan plays Alex, a divorced literary agent living in London who is trying to restart her love life while raising her son and caring for her parents. ‘Youth’ Episode 2 Recap and What Happens With Alex’s Son

Episode 2 opens with Alex and her colleague Sam heading out to meet longtime author Charlotte, played by Anne Reid, about her new manuscript. They are joined by Charlotte’s cold and calculating daughter, played by Harriet Walter, who warns Alex and Sam that they need to accept changes to the book despite its racy and inappropriate content.

Alex also learns her son Ruari wants to skip an academic year and try to become a stand up comedian in Canada with his father, Lorcan. When Lorcan refuses to break the news to their son himself, Alex is left carrying yet another burden, all while her romance with Patrick appears to be moving forward, with the two sharing a date, a kiss and time together at his place.

Things take a darker turn when Alex and Ruari return to his university dorm to find his belongings have been thrown in the trash. Other students reveal that Ruari has been targeted and called a pervert, a shocking and painful discovery for Alex that leaves her standing in stunned silence before she agrees to take her son home.

Back home, Patrick invites Alex out for a drink, and the two share a quiet moment riding bikes together that briefly eases her mind. The relief does not last long once their conversation turns emotional.

When Alex reveals to Patrick that her mother has lost another toe, she breaks down in tears, and Patrick gently suggests she might be trying to juggle too much at once. Alex pushes back, insisting she wants to be with him, and the two share another kiss before their emotions boil over.

The pair get into a serious argument after Alex accuses Patrick of never having had to be serious about anything in his life. As she tries to walk away, Alex tells him not to follow her, and true to her word, he does not.

When Alex turns back expecting to see him behind her, she instead sees Patrick already walking off in a different direction, and the disappointment on her face closes out the episode.
