From Red Carpet Glamour to Battle-Scarred Warrior: Callina Liang’s Jaw-Dropping Transformation for ‘Street Fighter’ Has Fans Losing It
Hollywood has seen plenty of actors undergo physical transformations for demanding roles, but few shifts have felt as visually jarring as the one currently making rounds online. When an actor goes from red carpet elegance to full combat mode in the span of a single year, it tends to grab attention fast.
That’s exactly the reaction Callina Liang is getting right now, as side-by-side photos from 2025 and 2026 circulate showing just how dramatically her look has changed. The transformation has fans crediting her dedication, and once the full story behind it comes into focus, it’s easy to see why.

Back in January 2025, Liang attended the New York premiere of Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ at AMC Lincoln Square, appearing alongside co-stars Lucy Liu and Julia Fox. She wore a white bodycon dress for the NEON-distributed film, embodying classic red carpet glamour in one of her earliest major Hollywood moments.
Fast forward to 2026, and Liang looks almost unrecognizable, sporting a battle-damaged blue costume, muscular, toned legs, and visible grime and blood as she fully embodies Chun-Li for Legendary’s live-action ‘Street Fighter‘ movie. The shift reflects one of the most demanding physical transformations an actor has undergone for a franchise role in recent memory.
Liang was cast as Chun-Li in June 2025, just months after her ‘Presence’ premiere, marking her first major action role. To prepare, she trained roughly two hours a day across Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Wushu to master the character’s kick-heavy fighting style, according to comments she gave to Empire.
The physical demands extended well beyond training sessions. “When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal, and I was on the verge of throwing up. But it worked. By the end of the shoot, my thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each,” Liang told Empire about the process.
She also reportedly immersed herself in the source material, downloading every version of ‘Street Fighter’ she could find and studying slow-motion footage of Chun-Li’s in-game moves frame by frame to nail the character’s technique.

Before landing the role, Liang had already built a strong foundation in film, starring in Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ as Chloe Payne and in J.C. Lee’s ‘Bad Genius’ as Lynn, both released in 2024. Those roles helped establish her as a rising talent well before Legendary tapped her for Chun-Li.
‘Street Fighter’ is directed by Kitao Sakurai and set in 1993, following Chun-Li as she recruits estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters for the World Warrior Tournament. The film is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on October 16.
