‘The Testaments’ Adds Two Major New Faces to Its Growing Season 2 Cast

Hulu’s ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ universe has spent the past year proving it still has plenty of story left to tell, and its spinoff series is quickly building one of the more impressive rosters in prestige television. With Season 2 now deep into production, the show continues to bring in familiar faces from across the streaming landscape, adding fresh energy to its already stacked ensemble.

The latest additions come courtesy of Deborah Ann Woll and Luke Kirby, who are joining ‘The Testaments‘ for its upcoming second season. According to Deadline, Woll has signed on as a recurring guest star while Kirby joins in a guest role, marking two notable new names heading into Gilead’s increasingly dangerous world.

Woll, most recently seen reprising her role as Karen Page in Marvel Television’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ will play Sylvia, a seamstress whose work keeps her in close proximity to the wives and daughters of Gilead’s Commanders. Kirby, known for his work on ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ steps into the role of Commander Fletcher, a literal-minded recluse living on a farm in one of Gilead’s Colonies, whose eccentric personality has made it notoriously difficult for him to find a wife.

These additions follow news that Charlie Carrick, who plays Gilead’s Commander Judd, has been upgraded to a series regular for Season 2, while Haley Wong is joining the cast as series regular Prudence, described as a dutiful and pregnant wife. Ann Dowd continues to anchor the series in her role as Aunt Lydia, reprising the character she originated on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’

‘The Testaments’ is based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning 2019 novel of the same name, following young teens Agnes, played by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday, as they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives. The series is created by showrunner Bruce Miller, who also created ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ and executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, and a lengthy list of additional producers.

Season 1 premiered in April and quickly established itself as a worthy successor to its predecessor, with the show’s cast also including Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, and Kira Guloien. The series is set roughly four years after the events of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ finale, following a new generation of young women in Gilead as they grapple with the prospect of indoctrination and forced marriage.

Production on Season 2 officially began in August, following Hulu’s decision to renew the series for a second run just one week ahead of the Season 1 finale, a quick turnaround that reflected strong confidence in the show’s performance. According to Disney, audiences streamed more than 45 million hours of the series globally across Hulu and Disney+ during its debut run, and the show received largely favorable reviews from critics along the way.

With Season 1 having introduced Agnes and Daisy’s growing bond as the emotional core of the series, fans have plenty of reason to expect that relationship to remain central as the story pushes further into Atwood’s source material. Given the book’s structure, which alternates between the perspectives of three central women, there’s also strong reason to believe the series will continue deepening Aunt Lydia’s complicated arc alongside the younger characters navigating Gilead’s brutal social order.

With Woll and Kirby now joining an already deep ensemble, ‘The Testaments’ appears to be leaning further into the sprawling, morally complex world Atwood built across both novels. As production continues moving forward, fans will likely have to wait until sometime in 2027 for the new season to actually arrive.
