Daredevil Fans Are Fighting for ‘Born Again’ Once More as the Show is Scheduled to End With Season 3
Few fandoms know the sting of cancellation like Daredevil’s. Netflix’s ‘Daredevil‘ ended in 2018 after 3 seasons, and a fan petition that gathered more than 400,000 signatures pushed Marvel to bring Charlie Cox back as Matt Murdock. That persistence eventually paid off with ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which arrived on Disney+ in March 2025.
The revival has had a busy run. Season 1 had 9 episodes and drew 7.5 million viewers in its first 5 days, while Season 2 followed in spring 2026 with 8 more. Viewership dropped to roughly half of the first season, though critics reportedly praised Season 2 as an improvement.
Then came this week’s bombshell. Season 3 will be the last, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, which Variety and Deadline followed up on. Deadline’s sources said the cast was called and told that the upcoming run is the final one, and Marvel has offered no comment.
The timing stings in another way, because the season has already finished filming. Marvel also did not renew the contract of showrunner Dario Scardapane, who is leaving in the middle of post-production. It’s unclear who will oversee the rest of the work.
Fans didn’t take long to respond. Team #SavedDaredevil has revived its rallying cry, and the statement it shared looked back on the shock of Netflix ending the original series in 2018. That happened shortly after Matt reunited with Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, leaving stories unfinished. The group also credited fans with keeping the characters visible until ‘Born Again’ arrived.
What the campaign hasn’t done yet is lay out a fresh demand for Marvel or Disney+. Its tone was closer to gratitude than a call to arms, but it was hardly the sound of a fandom preparing to disappear. The statement drew thousands of likes and hundreds of reposts, and Collider’s own post about the campaign pulled 294 reposts and 1.6K likes.
It’s worth keeping the history in perspective. Marvel has never credited any single fan campaign with bringing Daredevil back. Cox himself did thank the campaign publicly, and he was joined in the wider MCU by several former co-stars, so the show’s revival has always involved more than a hashtag.
Vincent D’Onofrio became the first cast member to react publicly. He posted on X thanking viewers for sticking with the show, teasing that the final season has some very cool stuff coming, and saying he loves Wilson Fisk and always will. Cox isn’t on social media, so a response from him may take longer.
The story picks up with Matt Murdock in prison after revealing his identity as Daredevil at the end of Season 2. Fisk has been stripped of his title as New York City mayor and has gone into exile. Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones are all set to return as fellow Defenders, and they’re expected to team up to take down Kingpin.
The season is expected in March 2027, though Disney+ hasn’t announced an exact date. Collider notes that Marvel Television had previously discussed turning ‘Born Again’ into an annual series, which makes the news harder to accept.

The decision fits a broader pattern. Marvel Television has been slowly trimming the number of shows it makes for Disney+, and it reportedly unrenewed ‘Wonder Man’ after first picking up a second season. Nothing is seemingly on the books after the final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ while a spy thriller called ‘Zodiac’ has reportedly been greenlit.
That leaves the campaign facing a familiar underdog fight. Fans have won this battle once, and with the season already in the can, they have several months to make some noise before it arrives.
