‘Black Doves’ Trailer Takes Helen Webb to Downing Street, and Nothing Is Safe
Netflix’s favorite Christmas spy thriller is heading back into the fray, and this time the stakes have moved from Soho bars to the highest office in the land. Fans of the wry, bloody British espionage series have been waiting a long time for footage, and the wait is finally over. The first ‘Black Doves‘ Season 2 trailer arrives with the show’s trademark mix of wit, violence and divided loyalties.
The new season premieres November 5 on Netflix, with all six hour-long episodes dropping at once. That comes almost a year after the first season’s holiday debut, which Collider described as record-shattering. The series was created and written by Joe Barton, and it has been compared to a blend of James Bond and John Wick.
The trailer, which runs 2 minutes, opens with an image that sums up the season’s premise. A family stands on the steps of 10 Downing Street facing a wall of photographers, with the famous black door behind them. It is the moment Helen Webb’s double life gets much more dangerous, since her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) is preparing to become Prime Minister.

Season 2 finds Helen (Keira Knightley) still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert Black Doves organization. After the misadventures of last Christmas, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever. Creator Barton told Netflix Tudum that “She’s literally the spy at the heart of government,” but that at the same time her handler, Reed, goes missing.
That leaves Helen in a precarious position, without her professional ally. Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, and Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits.
As they search for answers, Netflix promises that loyalties are weaponized, trust is shattered and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. Their mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, right to the heart of the Black Doves.
The first season ended with Helen and Sam barely surviving a violent Christmas confrontation with crime boss Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman). Helen finally learned the truth behind the murder of her lover Jason, who turned out to be an MI5 agent investigating her, and the killer was Alex’s son Trent. Along the way, Reed told her that her husband would likely become Prime Minister, which is exactly where Season 2 begins.
That sets up a delicious tension. A spy who has spent years leaking government secrets is now about to live inside the government’s most famous home, with cameras following her every move.
The ensemble has grown considerably. Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey and Molly Chesworth return, and the newcomers include Ambika Mod as Laila, an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent sent to help Helen. Babou Ceesay plays Mr. Conteh, a Black Doves executive with suspicious motivations, and Sam Riley plays Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organization who offers Sam a lifeline.
Neve Campbell joins as Cecile Mason, a US defence envoy, while Sylvia Hoeks and Goran Kostic play Katia and Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett plays Jerry. Julian Farino and Kieron Hawkes direct, and Knightley executive produces alongside Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry.
The trailer was shown at Netflix’s UK upfronts event in London, part of a broader slate that included a first look at Charlie Brooker’s new series ‘Blackmere’. For ‘Black Doves’, it is a chance to remind viewers why the show became a breakout. The mix of high-end action and British humor has been its calling card, and the added political pressure could raise both.
Production on the season began in London in late 2025 and has long since wrapped, so episodes are locked and ready. That means fans only have a few weeks left before Helen and Sam are back in action.
