Robert Downey Jr. Unveils New Doctor Doom Artwork for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Re-Release
Seven years after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ closed out the Infinity Saga, Marvel is giving audiences a reason to head back to the multiplex before the next chapter even arrives. The 2019 blockbuster is returning to theaters with a fresh coat of paint, a new title and just enough added footage to reignite the fandom’s obsession with what comes next.
That next chapter is ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ the Russo brothers’ upcoming ensemble epic that marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as the villainous Victor Von Doom instead of Tony Stark. With the film’s December premiere edging closer, Marvel has been steadily rolling out teasers, concept art and cast reveals to keep the hype machine running.
Now Downey himself is getting in on the promotion, and he’s doing it with a healthy dose of humor. The actor shared new official artwork of Doctor Doom on Instagram to mark the theatrical arrival of ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ and the caption immediately had fans buzzing.
“Very Well. Doom shall attend, but there will be no sharing of snacks,” Downey wrote alongside the image.
The artwork shows Victor Von Doom settled into a theater seat, decked out for a movie night in full villain regalia. He’s holding a popcorn bucket styled after the Nano Gauntlet from ‘Endgame,’ complete with Infinity Stones, while balancing a soda in his other hand. Goobers, Junior Mints, Dots and a giant pretzel are scattered around him, alongside a couple of ticket stubs for good measure.
The post was an instant hit, racking up nearly 600,000 likes within its first hour online, according to Cosmic Book News. Even the Russo brothers couldn’t resist chiming in, jokingly asking in the comments where the raisinets were, per Cosmic Book News.
‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ isn’t just a nostalgia play. The re-release folds in roughly four extra minutes of footage tied directly to the story of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ giving longtime fans a reason to see the record-breaking film again before its sequel lands.
Joe Russo emphasized just how important that connective tissue is. Speaking at the Sands Film Festival earlier this year, he explained that re-releasing ‘Endgame’ with footage set in the ‘Doomsday’ story was critically important to the larger narrative, per Den of Geek.

The added scenes reportedly bring Doctor Doom, Loki and Bruce Banner into the mix, with Tom Hiddleston already confirmed to reprise his role in ‘Doomsday’ and Mark Ruffalo’s return still the subject of speculation. Reports on the new material describe Doom abducting the Hulk, Loki crossing paths with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, and the Time Variance Authority witnessing a wave of multiversal incursions, all building toward the moment Doom forges his iconic mask.
The strategy appears to be working at the box office. ‘Endgame Encore’ opened with more than $3 million in preview screenings, putting it on pace to challenge the numbers posted by other recent theatrical re-releases. Industry trackers have projected an opening weekend haul in the $25 million to $28 million range domestically, a total that could help push ‘Endgame’ back toward the top of the all-time global rankings.

That kind of performance underscores just how much goodwill still surrounds the film nearly a decade after Tony Stark’s final stand against Thanos. It also shows Marvel Studios is willing to lean heavily on legacy titles to build anticipation for its next tentpole release.
For Downey, the marketing blitz doubles as a fun way to stay in character months ahead of ‘Doomsday’s arrival. Between the snack-hoarding artwork and the Russo brothers’ playful ribbing in the comments, the actor is clearly having fun leaning into Doom’s smug, controlling personality long before audiences see him in live action.
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to hit theaters on December 18, the countdown is officially on, and if Downey’s social media presence is any indication, Doom is already treating the moment like the main event.
