‘Wednesday’ Wraps Production on Its Third Season, and Netflix Marks It With a Moody New Photo

‘Wednesday‘ has been one of Netflix’s biggest hits since it premiered in 2022. The Jenna Ortega-led series drew four Emmys for its first season, and Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria has called it the streamer’s most popular English-language TV show.

That success is why the show was renewed for a third season in July 2025, before the second season even arrived. Since then, the Nevermore Academy story has been on a very long road, with production stretching across most of 2026.

Filming began near Dublin in February and later moved to Paris for a few days in April. Now, the journey has reached its end. Netflix announced this morning that production has officially wrapped on the ‘Wednesday’ third season, marking the moment with a new photo of Ortega as Wednesday Addams.

In the image, credited to photographer James Pierce, Wednesday sits in profile at a wooden desk, typing on a vintage typewriter under the glow of a metal desk lamp. The room is dark and moody, with warm light catching her face.

She wears her signature severe bob and a black jacket with white stripes. It is a simple, atmospheric frame that fits the show’s gothic tone, and Netflix framed it as a return to the typewriter.

The season two finale ended with Wednesday and Thing riding off in the sidecar of her uncle Fester’s motorcycle, played by Fred Armisen. They were searching for her friend and roommate Enid, a werewolf who became stuck in her wolf form and ran into the wilderness.

Netflix has not released official plot details for the new season, but the Paris trip may be connected to that hunt for Enid. The first-look image from April showed Wednesday standing next to a motorcycle beneath the Eiffel Tower, with Thing sitting on top, and the caption “From Paris, with dread.”

Set photos also showed Ortega, Armisen and director Tim Burton filming near the Seine, with Ortega in a new all-black outfit.

The new season brings some notable additions. Eva Green plays Ophelia Frump, Morticia’s long-missing sister and Wednesday’s aunt, a thread teased in the season two finale, and Winona Ryder joins as Tabitha, reuniting with Burton and Ortega after ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’.

Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy and James Lance are also joining in roles that have not been disclosed. Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer round out the newcomers.

Burton has said he is excited to be back and to be reunited with the original cast, and that the addition of friends and past collaborators like Ryder, Green, Sarandon and Taylor makes the season extra special.

Returning to the family are Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. Emma Myers returns as Enid Sinclair, alongside Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Victor Dorobantu as Thing and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

Co-creator Miles Millar has teased that fans will see more Addams family members and learn more family secrets. Burton is back as director and executive producer, sharing directing duties with Paco Cabezas.

Netflix has not announced a premiere date, and the season is not in the streamer’s 2026 lineup. A 2027 release is the expected window, with summer 2027 floated by some outlets.

Production of the show has historically taken a while. The first season took about 6 months to produce and the second about 9 and a half, and reports of script rewrites and an on-set injury have also been mentioned along the way.

For now, all 16 episodes of the first two seasons are streaming on Netflix, giving fans a rewatch while they wait for Wednesday’s next chapter.

With filming complete, the show moves into post-production, where the visual effects and stop-motion elements will need to be finished. That is likely why the wait is long.
