‘X-Men’ Star Samara Weaving’s Casual New Selfie Lands in the Middle of Her Biggest Year Yet
Samara Weaving has built one of the most distinctive careers in modern genre filmmaking. The Australian actress began on television, found her footing in horror and became one of the genre’s most recognizable faces. Her 2026 has been busy enough that even a quiet social media moment draws attention.
Weaving started out on Australian TV, with the series ‘Out of the Blue’ in 2008 and the soap opera ‘Home and Away’ from 2009 to 2013. She made her feature debut in the 2013 crime film ‘Mystery Road’, alongside her uncle, actor Hugo Weaving. Her breakthrough came in 2017 with ‘Mayhem’ and ‘The Babysitter’, plus a small role in ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.

The newest photo to circulate is a relaxed one. Weaving shared a selfie on Instagram in a graphic T-shirt that gives the image a casual feel. The white tee has red trim at the collar and a playful heart-and-doll graphic, and she posed with her phone in a mirror.
It is a quiet counterpoint to a loud year. Weaving’s 2026 has included a major franchise sequel, a streaming hit and a Marvel casting announcement. Female First’s news listings also note that she confirmed the birth of a baby girl in June.
The biggest headline came on July 31, when Deadline reported that Weaving would play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ movie. Variety confirmed the casting and noted that the film will be directed by Jake Schreier, who oversaw ‘Thunderbolts’. The cast also includes Kit Connor, Sadie Sink, Christopher Abbott, Inde Navarrette and Maya Boyd.
Deadline said Weaving’s audition was too hard to beat in the search for Frost. In comics lore, the character has moved from supervillain to superhero over the course of a long run in print. The film is listed as expected in 2028.
Weaving has not left horror behind. She returned as Grace in ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’, released in 2026 and directed by the Radio Silence duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Kathryn Newton joined as Grace’s sister, Faith, and Weaving also served as an executive producer.
She then starred opposite Jason Segel in ‘Over Your Dead Body’, an R-rated remake of the Norwegian thriller ‘The Trip’. Collider reported that the film hit a 50-day streaming milestone, with the outlet calling Weaving’s bid to be the best scream queen of our times helped by 2 slashers in 2026. On top of that, ‘Carolina Caroline’, in which she plays a woman who falls in with a charismatic con man played by Kyle Gallner, has earned a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Her slate keeps growing. Deadline reported that Weaving will lead the environmental thriller ‘Hivemind’ opposite Nicholas Braun of ‘Succession’. Directed by Ciarán Foy and now filming in Dublin, the movie centers on a new breed of killer wasps and the small-town authorities who team up to stop a global outbreak.
Amazon MGM Studios has boarded ‘Hivemind’ and plans to stream it internationally on Prime Video. Other projects listed for her include the action thriller ‘Bella’ for Paramount and a film about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte called ‘Liz’. The original ‘Ready or Not’ is also currently streaming on Netflix.
What sets Weaving apart is how she balances scares with comedy. ‘Ready or Not’ made her a scream queen in 2019, and she followed it with roles in ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’, ‘The Babysitter: Killer Queen’, ‘Scream VI’, ‘Azrael’ and ‘Borderline’. That variety gave Marvel plenty of evidence that she can handle both the drama and the humor of a superhero ensemble.
Collider noted that this year marks nearly a decade since her first major US-made films were released. In that time, she has moved from supporting parts to leading roles, and now to a tentpole franchise. A casual selfie may be a small moment, but it comes at a point when her fans have a lot to look forward to.
