The countdown is officially on for Marvel’s next big event movie. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026, after a release-date shuffle that moved it from its earlier May 1, 2026 slot.

The hype machine has been running ever since the first full trailer landed. It gave audiences a first glimpse at Doctor Doom, with the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men all crossing paths, and it reportedly pulled in roughly 503 million views in its first 24 hours.

Now one of the film’s leads is offering a vibe check on what the finished movie will feel like. In a clip shared by Cosmic Marvel on X, Anthony Mackie says the big thing fans can expect is “the amount of doom you’re going to see.” He jokes that every time somebody speaks, someone is saying there’s “a lot of doom outside.”

The video shows Mackie on a stage in front of an ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ banner printed in Spanish, with a few of his castmates beside him. His comment lands as a playful warning that the villain’s shadow will hang over nearly every scene.

That fits what Marvel has been showing. Robert Downey Jr. swaps Iron Man’s armor for Doctor Doom’s mask, and the July trailer suggests Doom speaks in a slower, more measured manner than Tony Stark’s quick-fire quipping. Judging by Mackie’s tone, the heroes will have a hard time escaping him.

Mackie has been teasing the film’s mood for a while. He previously told Collider that the movie ends on a major cliffhanger and that no one is safe. Earlier, he told IGN that the film would bring back the old Marvel feeling audiences remember.

He is also part of one of the film’s bigger storylines. Chris Evans and Mackie have both indicated that Steve Rogers will take on the Nomad mantle, similar to the comics. Evans returns as Rogers for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019, which sets up a reunion between the Captain America of the past and the one of the present.

Marvel keeps feeding the buzz. The studio’s San Diego Comic-Con panel included an exclusive in-room look at the film and directly involved fans. A new promo posted on Oct. 3 features Evans, Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Simu Liu and Danny Ramirez.

The excitement is spreading beyond the U.S. as well. Mexico’s Cinemex and Cinépolis opened ticket presales on Sept. 28, with the film arriving there on Dec. 17, which may explain the Spanish banner behind the cast.

Marvel is also asking audiences to settle in for a long one. The film runs 2 hours and 45 minutes, which leaves plenty of time for Mackie’s promised doom. The sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is set for December 17, 2027, so the story will not end there.

What do you think of Anthony Mackie teasing “a lot of Doom” in Avengers: Doomsday?
