‘Furious’ Star Emmy Rossum Ignites the Spotlight in New Photos
Emmy Rossum is having the kind of year that actors wait decades for. Her Hulu crime thriller ‘Furious’ premiered on July 27 and quickly turned into one of the summer’s surprise streaming hits, with Rossum both starring and serving as an executive producer.
The series follows an FBI agent hunting a calculating female serial killer, and it has been praised for blurring the line between right and wrong. It holds a 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and Hulu renewed it for a second season before the first one even ended.
The latest buzz comes from a pair of fresh images posted by Cinethology on October 4. In the photos, Rossum wears a fitted black short-sleeved top with a textured, shimmering finish and her dark hair in voluminous curls, posing in 2 different settings.
The look echoes the all-black style she wore on October 2 at Edward Enninful’s Paris Fashion Week party, where she paired a mesh-paneled black top with a leather mini skirt, knee-high boots and sunglasses. That outing came during the Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear shows, which run through October 6, and Enninful is the former British Vogue editor-in-chief who now hosts exclusive gatherings through his company EE72.

Rossum plays FBI agent Alice Black, who investigates a serial killer named Catherine Grace, played by Lola Petticrew, who targets powerful men connected to abuse. Their paths intertwine as the story goes on, and the line between right and wrong begins to blur.
Creator Elizabeth Meriwether wrote the series, and the cast also includes Quincy Tyler Bernstine as the head of the FBI’s sex crimes unit, Scoot McNairy as Alice’s former NYPD partner and Jake Lacy. Brian Kirk directed the first 2 episodes, and 20th Television and Searchlight Television produce the show, with Rossum among its executive producers.
The show launched with 3 episodes on premiere day, then rolled out weekly through the August 31 finale. Audience interest grew as the season went on, with episode 7 drawing 40% more one-day views than the premiere and the finale jumping 90% over the premiere. Overall, the series racked up 43 million hours viewed and reached No. 5 on Luminate’s weekly charts. That kind of growth is rare for a show without a built-in franchise behind it.
The reviews have been strong. Beyond the 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, the show earned a Metacritic score of 81, which signals broad critical approval. The Playlist gave it a B+ and described it as a gripping revenge thriller, while The Guardian reportedly called Rossum’s work a career-defining turn.
Critics have focused on how the series treats its subject matter, exploring trauma, exploitation and institutional failure rather than settling for a standard procedural formula. Rossum’s character is not a simple hero, and her complicated relationship with justice has been a major part of the show’s appeal.
Fans have followed Rossum since her early film work. She won a Critics’ Choice Award and a Saturn Award for ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ in 2004, and she played Fiona Gallagher across 9 seasons of ‘Shameless’ on Showtime from 2011 to 2019.
More recently, she appeared opposite Tom Holland in ‘The Crowded Room’ in 2023 and starred in the Off-Broadway play ‘Walden’ in 2024. She has also released 2 albums, including ‘Sentimental Journey’, which reached No. 1 on the jazz albums chart.
In a July interview with ‘Good Morning America’, Rossum discussed ‘Furious’ and shared a message for other working moms.
With a second season of ‘Furious’ confirmed, Rossum has a lot to look forward to, although Hulu has not yet announced an episode count or production timeline. Deadline also reported in June that she joined the cast of the film ‘Rubber Hut’ alongside Michael Imperioli and Ariana Greenblatt.
For now, the combination of a hit series, a fashion week appearance and a fresh set of photos has put Rossum firmly back in the spotlight. After years of fan favorite work, this moment feels like a new chapter for an actress who has already had several.
