Olivia Rodrigo Looks Dreamy in Feathers and Florals for The Hollywood Reporter, and the Cover Story Is Just as Revealing
Some pop stars are known for big, loud glamour. Olivia Rodrigo has built her image on something softer and stranger: a mix of romance, melancholy and a little bit of mess. Her latest magazine moment leans right into that.
Magazine covers are also a way for artists to show where they are in their careers. For Rodrigo, 2026 has been a year of big changes, from a new album to a new era of confidence. That context makes her newest editorial one to watch.
Now the Olivia Rodrigo Hollywood Reporter photoshoot is making the rounds online. Photographer Emma Summerton captured the singer for the magazine’s Music Issue, dated October 7, which carries the cover line “The Queen of Sad Finds Her Happy Place.” Pop Crave shared a pair of images from the session, and they quickly drew attention.

The pictures lean dreamy and vintage. In one, Rodrigo lies on a faded floral rug in a delicate white strappy top trimmed with feathers, her dark hair spread around her and one hand resting on her chest. In another set, she poses behind weathered window panes in a white feathered top with a ribbon at the collar, looking out in a series of soft, layered frames.
The wider shoot was photographed on August 21 at The Ebell of Los Angeles, with styling by Chloe & Chenelle. Looks included a Schiaparelli jacket, skirt and shoes, along with a Calvin Klein dress, a Dior dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. Owen Gould handled hair, Melissa Hernandez did makeup and Yoko Sakakura did nails.
The Music Issue also includes features on RAYE, Don Toliver, Slayyyter and Lucian Grainge, which shows how big a spotlight Rodrigo has been given.

The cover story finds Rodrigo reflecting on her all-female charity festival, Daisy Chain Fields, held over a scorching weekend at Irvine’s Great Park. Performing in front of 50,000 people, she says in The Hollywood Reporter that “it felt like it was my wedding a little bit.” The festival, she adds, helped heal her relationship with her own complicated feelings about fame.
That is a striking shift for an artist who shot to stardom at 17 with ‘Drivers License’ in 2021. Back then, fame arrived almost overnight. Now she seems to be finding a way to enjoy it on her own terms.
Pop’s queen of sad finds her happy place. Olivia Rodrigo (@oliviarodrigo) has spent years turning heartbreak into hits — and wrestling with the fame that followed. But with a massive new album, sold-out tour and her very own feminist music festival, the 23-year-old pop sensation is finally enjoying the view from the top. The cover story also digs into ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,’ Rodrigo’s third album, released on June 12. Critics praised its confessional songwriting and its maturity compared with her earlier work. The record also reflects a change in sound, moving from the bedroom pop of ‘Sour’ to the pop-punk edge of ‘Guts’ and now toward new wave.
One highlight is “What’s Wrong With Me,” which features Robert Smith of The Cure, the first artist ever to appear on a Rodrigo album. Rodrigo calls it the best song on the record. Smith praised her desire to be recognized as a songwriter, saying that it feels refreshing and almost unmodern.
Her songs also stay honest about the less flattering sides of herself, including jealousy and obsession. That unfiltered approach is part of what has made fans connect so deeply with her music.
The attention is not only about fashion and feelings. In a separate piece, The Hollywood Reporter’s early Grammy predictions describe the album of the year race as potentially coming down to two Olivias, with Rodrigo and Olivia Dean leading the conversation. Rodrigo has already earned an album of the year nomination for ‘Guts,’ so the prospect of another run is hardly far-fetched.
She is also taking the new material on the road. Her Unraveled Tour runs from September 2026 through May 2027, giving fans plenty of chances to hear the songs live.
Between the photos, the festival and the awards chatter, this looks like a moment where Rodrigo is both reflective and in control. The title of the story may say she has found her happy place, but the images suggest she is having fun making sad music look beautiful.
