‘Batman: Knightfall’ Sequel Unveils a Motion Poster, and Azrael’s Armored Cowl Takes Center Stage in ‘Knightquest’
DC’s R-rated animated adaptation of one of the most famous Batman stories is moving full speed ahead. ‘Batman: Knightfall’ is being told across three films, and the middle chapter is now teasing its arrival. The latest promotional piece offers a stylish look at the new Dark Knight, and it signals that the story is about to take a very dark turn.
The first installment ended with Gotham in crisis and Bruce Wayne out of action. Now, the sequel is gearing up to answer a simple but unsettling question: who takes up the cowl next?
A five-second motion poster for ‘Batman Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest‘ has been released, and it is marked “Coming Soon to Digital”. The artwork shows a heavily armored Batman in blue and gold, with glowing red eyes and lightning crackling behind him. The title treatment sits at the center, with the subtitle “Knightquest” displayed prominently.
The look is a dramatic departure from the traditional Batman design, which is exactly the point. This version of the character is meant to feel more violent and unpredictable than the hero Gotham is used to.

The film picks up directly from the first part. Bruce Wayne has been left paralyzed after his clash with Bane, and Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, takes up the mantle of Batman to defend Gotham. The official synopsis asks whether his more violent methods will be enough to stop Bane.
Reports suggest the story will move away from the direct confrontation with Bane and focus more on identity, responsibility and the consequences of replacing Bruce Wayne. Jean-Paul’s increasingly brutal methods create a new threat of their own.
A trailer arrived on Sept. 19, timed for Batman Day, and it features Jean-Paul’s armored Batman suit along with Dick Grayson as Nightwing, who helps Gotham. Fans can also expect classic rogues, with Two-Face singled out as a possible highlight. Part 1’s trailer, shown at the Annecy festival, also featured the Joker, Mister Freeze, Scarecrow and the Riddler.
The footage leans into the heavier tone that the marketing has emphasized from the start. Warner Bros. is clearly pitching this as a bloodier and more brutal take on Gotham, and the R rating gives the filmmakers room to push the violence.
Anson Mount voices Bruce Wayne and Batman, Michael Mando plays Bane and Pablo Schreiber voices Jean-Paul Valley and Azrael. The cast also includes Jack Griffo as Tim Drake and Robin, Bruce Boxleitner as Commissioner Gordon and Simon Templeman as Alfred Pennyworth. Toks Olagundoye is listed as Shondra Kinsolving.
Nightwing appears in the trailer, though the actor voicing him has not been announced, which makes his role one of the open questions heading into the release. The full cast for the sequel has not been confirmed, so more names could still be added.

‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’ premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 23 and arrived on digital on Aug. 25. A physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD followed on Sept. 8. Directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, it is rated R for strong bloody violence and adapts the opening of the 1993 comic event.
In that film, Bane releases Arkham Asylum’s inmates to wear Batman down, then attacks him at Wayne Manor and breaks his back. The ending leaves Gotham without its protector, which sets up everything that follows.
No specific release date has been announced for the sequel, though the film is expected later this year. The poster’s “Coming Soon to Digital” tag suggests it will follow the same path as the first film. There is also no word on whether it will reach HBO Max, with no date set so far.
The third film, ‘KnightsEnd’, is scheduled for early 2027, completing the trilogy. An executive has reportedly said the story is so consequential that it takes three films to tell.
