Batman: Knightfall (Film)

“Knightfall” is a famous Batman comic storyline published by DC Comics between 1993 and 1994. The story is split into three parts: “Knightfall,” “Knightquest,” and “KnightsEnd.” It follows Bruce Wayne as Batman after years of fighting crime leave him exhausted and vulnerable. His greatest enemy, Bane, uses his intelligence and enhanced strength to break Batman physically and force him out of the role.

With Bruce unable to continue, Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, takes over as Batman. However, Azrael becomes more violent and unstable, damaging Batman’s reputation and forcing Bruce to return and reclaim the mantle. The storyline changed Batman’s world by showing that he could not carry the mission alone, leading to the growth of the modern Batman Family.

The classic comic arc is now being adapted into an animated movie trilogy by Warner Bros. Animation. The first film, Batman: Knightfall – Part 1, brings the iconic storyline to the screen with Anson Mount as Batman, Michael Mando as Bane, and Pablo Schreiber as Azrael. The movie premiered at the 2026 Annecy Animation Festival and received strong reactions from audiences, who praised its darker tone, intense action, and focus on characters like Tim Drake’s Robin.
