‘Apocalypse Z: New World’: Here’s the Release Date, Teaser, Plot, Cast and Everything Else We Know
Few international streaming hits have turned a book series into a global conversation quite like Spain’s zombie franchise on Prime Video. The first film took a rabies-like virus, a grieving lawyer and his cat, and built a survival story that traveled far beyond its home country. Now the sequel, ‘Apocalypse Z: New World‘, is closing in on its debut.
The new film continues the story of a Europe on its knees, where every supply run could be the last. As the premiere draws near, Prime Video has been ramping up its promotional push with fresh footage and a firm date.
The latest teaser opens in a command room filled with surveillance monitors, many of them showing grainy night-vision footage and a heat map of infected activity. A subtitle on screen warns that the spread of the TSJ virus is out of control across the globe. The short clip runs 37 seconds and is built around a simple message that “the mission begins.”
An earlier teaser opens with Lúculo, the fan-favorite cat, amid the wreckage of a crashed helicopter in Madrid. A radio transmission signals the danger of the cargo routes. Together, the two clips suggest a darker and more desperate chapter than the original.

‘Apocalypse Z: New World’ streams exclusively on Prime Video on Oct. 30, the day before Halloween, in more than 240 countries and territories. Before that, it will screen at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival on Oct. 10, in the festival’s 59th edition. The film then gets its US premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles on Oct. 13.
That festival run gives the sequel a proper horror-circuit launch before it reaches living rooms. It also fits the timing of a movie clearly meant for Halloween week.

The story is set in the Canary Islands, which have become Europe’s last refuge after the TSJ virus outbreak. A special mission heads to the mainland to gather vital supplies, and a recruit named Roberto joins with questionable intentions. The team is soon caught between hordes of infected and divided loyalties.
As the mission goes on, trust within the group begins to break down. That makes the real danger as much about the people on the expedition as the creatures outside. The setup promises a tense mix of action and paranoia.
Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martinez, Monica Lopez, Tamara Casellas and Santiago Vaca Narvaja lead the new ensemble. Returning from the first film are Jose Maria Yazpik as Pritchenko, Berta Vazquez as Lucia and Pedrito the cat as Lúculo. New additions include Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernandez, Javier Godino, Ujin Moreno and Mario Mayo.
The return of Yazpik and Vazquez ties the sequel directly to the earlier story. Lúculo’s comeback, meanwhile, is almost guaranteed to please viewers who adopted the cat as the franchise’s mascot.
Carles Torrens, who directed the first film, returns to direct. The screenplay is by Angel Agudo, and the production comes from Nostromo Pictures, with Nuria Valls and Adrian Guerra as executive producers. The universe is inspired by the novels of author Manel Loureiro.
Having the same director back should give the sequel a consistent tone. It also suggests that Prime Video is confident in the approach that worked the first time.
‘Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End’ arrived in 2024 and followed a lawyer named Manel as a TSJ virus collapsed society and turned the infected into hyper-aggressive killers. He flees his home with his cat, Lúculo, toward the Canary Islands. Along the way, he teams up with Pritchenko, a Ukrainian helicopter pilot, and they rescue a nurse, Lucia, and a young boy from a besieged hospital before escaping by helicopter.
The film became the most-watched international Original movie on Prime Video, surpassed only by ‘Your Fault’. That track record explains why the sequel is getting such a wide launch.
Zombie stories can feel crowded, but this franchise has carved out a distinct identity through its European setting and its cat-centered heart. The new film appears to expand the scope while keeping the intimate survival focus that made the original work. It is also the kind of release that lets Prime Video lean into the Halloween season.
With the teasers out, the date locked and the cast set, the main question is how bleak the sequel will get. Fans will not have long to find out.
