Rumor: The DCU’s Batman Could Be Revealed in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, and It Might Set Up ‘The Brave and the Bold’

James Gunn’s DC Universe has been steadily filling its roster, but one hero has been conspicuously missing. Superman, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific and the Lanterns are all on screen or on their way, while the Dark Knight remains the biggest unanswered question. Fans have been asking who will wear the cowl for years.

The next big step for the franchise is ‘Man of Tomorrow‘, the follow-up to 2025’s ‘Superman’. Written and directed by Gunn, it is the 4th film in the DCU and is set for release on July 9, 2027, with filming having run from April to August 2026. David Corenswet returns as Superman, Nicholas Hoult is back as Lex Luthor, and Lars Eidinger plays the villain Brainiac.

Now a new rumor claims the Batman question could finally be answered there. According to the claim, the actor playing the DCU’s Batman will be revealed in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, with Bruce Wayne appearing at the end of the film or in a post-credits scene. That appearance would reportedly set up ‘The Brave and the Bold‘ directly. Gunn hasn’t confirmed any casting, so this should be treated as unverified.

‘The Brave and the Bold’ was announced in 2023 as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It is expected to feature Bruce Wayne’s Batman alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin, a young assassin who only learns of his father later. Gunn has said the script ideas have changed since the announcement, though that lineup is still the expected one.

Andy Muschietti, the director of ‘It’ and ‘The Flash’, is attached to direct, and Gunn has said the project is not on hold. There is still no release date and no cast, and Gunn has said the screenplay wasn’t finished at the time. Muschietti himself once said Batman had been postponed a bit as he worked on a science fiction project.

If it is true, it would move the DCU’s Batman reveal much earlier than many expected. Some industry chatter has suggested ‘The Brave and the Bold’ is further along than it appears, with insider reports pointing to a production start as soon as late 2027. Those claims are also unconfirmed.

It also runs against Gunn’s earlier statements. Months ago, he called rumors of Batman auditions for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ false, and said the biggest casting news had been Brainiac, with most other sizable roles going to characters audiences had already met. In an earlier interview, he said he loves Batman but that the actor for the DCU’s version didn’t exist yet.

Any Batman reveal also has to coexist with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’, which is set to arrive on October 1, 2027. Gunn has said he doesn’t want DCU Batman casting or development news to overshadow it. A reveal in July 2027 would land only a few months before that sequel, and ComicBook.com has suggested it could put pressure on the Reeves film or push the DCU to move on regardless.

There has also been talk of Gunn planning an older version of Bruce Wayne, possibly in his 50s, which would fit a hero who already has a son old enough to fight alongside him. Fan casting chatter has been loud, with Alan Ritchson among the names who have been linked to the role in online speculation. None of it has been confirmed.

The universe is busy in the meantime. ‘Clayface’ is due on October 23, 2026, and the ‘Lanterns’ series is already on the air. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ also features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Matthew Lillard in an undisclosed role and Frank Grillo, with Aaron Pierre and Xolo Maridueña among the cast joining.

That is a lot for the film to carry, and adding a Batman tease would only increase the pressure on Gunn to deliver a satisfying story while setting up what comes next. For now, the safest assumption is that nothing is settled until DC Studios says so.

When should the DCU finally reveal its Batman?
