Few genres are as satisfying as the heist story. The planning, the double-crosses and the ticking clock have powered everything from classic caper films to modern streaming hits, and viewers keep coming back for more. Apple TV is the latest to place a bet on that formula, and the first full trailer is here.

The series, ’12 12 12′, stars and is executive produced by Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan, and it premieres globally on Friday, November 13. Apple TV unveiled the trailer on October 13, following an earlier first look in August. It is an 8-episode drama that pits a disgraced FBI agent against an American career criminal in a game of cat and mouse across Europe.

The newly released trailer runs about 2 minutes and shows Mackie’s character laying out the rules of a successful heist for Dornan’s character. One line stands out: a bank robber who is not caught in 12 days is not caught at all. It frames the series as a duel between 2 men who understand each other a little too well.

The title is not just a catchy number. Each episode unfolds across 3 timelines of the same heist: the 12 months of planning, the 12 hours of the robbery itself and the 12 days that follow. That structure lets the story jump between preparation, execution and fallout, which should make for plenty of twists.

At the center of it all is a daring raid on a bank vault buried deep beneath the streets of Zurich. Mackie plays the FBI agent whose career has fallen apart, while Dornan plays the thief he is chasing. The official description calls their battle a zero-sum game, and the trailer suggests the stakes are personal for both.

The show reunites Mackie and Dornan, who previously co-starred in the film ‘Synchronic’. It also brings Mackie back together with director Kari Skogland, with whom he worked on ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’. Skogland directs multiple episodes, including the pilot, and serves as an executive producer.

Creators Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble are executive producers and wrote several episodes. Mackie and Dornan are also executive producers, alongside others including David Ellison and Dana Goldberg. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content.

Mackie is an Emmy nominee, and Dornan has been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award, which gives the show a lot of established talent. The project was first announced in 2024, so the road to the screen has been a long one.

The ensemble includes Jack Kesy, Kali Reis, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Agathe Rousselle of ‘Titane’, Sallie Harmsen and José Garcia. The mix of American and European performers fits a story that crosses borders, and the trailer teases locations that range from grand European buildings to cold, snowy skylines. That international flavor is part of the appeal.

Apple TV has also released photos of several cast members in character, hinting at the web of allies and rivals involved in the robbery. With so many players, the show’s shifting timelines could keep viewers guessing about who is on whose side.

’12 12 12′ premieres on Apple TV on November 13 with its first 2 episodes, followed by 1 new episode every Friday. The finale arrives on Christmas Day, December 25. That weekly rollout is designed to build momentum, and it gives the series a built-in holiday finish.

Some fans joked in the comments that the show should have premiered on December 12 to match its title. The actual schedule still lines up with the end-of-year binge season, when viewers look for something gripping to watch as the weather turns colder.

What makes a heist drama work is the combination of intelligence and intimacy. The planners have to think several steps ahead, while the person chasing them has to think like them. By putting 2 charismatic leads at opposite ends of that conflict, ’12 12 12′ taps into one of the oldest and most reliable sources of tension in storytelling.

If the trailer is any indication, the series is leaning into a polished, high-stakes style, with cat-and-mouse scenes that could set it apart from lighter capers. Whether it becomes a hit will depend on how well the 3-timeline structure pays off, but the premise is strong.
