Global streaming platforms continue to recalibrate their international content investments, placing heightened emphasis on South Korean productions that effortlessly captivate diverse audiences across multiple territories. Major platforms have increasingly sought high-concept programming capable of seamlessly pairing gripping narrative tension with lighthearted character dynamics. As competition intensifies across the streaming landscape, subscribers have demonstrated an insatiable appetite for storytelling that reimagines classic narrative tropes.

Among these beloved formats, few concepts have historically achieved greater international resonance than the high-stakes workplace romantic comedy blended with covert mystery. When unexpected investigative thriller elements collide with heightened workplace absurdities, audiences are treated to a delicate balancing act of suspense and humor. That rich narrative formula sets the stage for one of television’s most anticipated international releases this season.

Enter ‘Love in Disguise’, a buzzy Korean drama series launching worldwide on Prime Video on October 19, 2026, alongside its domestic telecast on tvN. The production, originally developed under the literal Korean working title ‘My Guilty Human’, consists of 12 episodes broadcasting weekly every Monday and Tuesday. Prime Video distributes the project across more than 240 countries and territories, expanding the streamer’s rapidly growing slate of marquee Asian scripted dramas.

An Intriguing Covert Premise: What Is ‘Love in Disguise’ About?

Adapted from the popular Kakao web novel ‘Why You Don’t Know It’s a Girl?’ by Lee A-yeon and Ryu Do-ha, the series navigates the volatile world of high-stakes corporate succession. At the center of the story stands Yoon Yi-jun, an arrogant and fiercely perfectionist third-generation chaebol heir to the powerful Taegang Group. His carefully manicured life implodes overnight when he emerges as the prime suspect in the sudden death of his personal secretary.

To uncover the truth behind the murder, detective Kang Jae-hee decides to launch a perilous clandestine investigation from within his personal orbit. A decorated former special forces operative renowned for her peerless combat instincts, Jae-hee discovers that Yi-jun is seeking an executive secretary and bodyguard exclusively open to male applicants. Capitalizing on her athletic demeanor, she disguises herself as a man to infiltrate his security detail.

Maintaining this disguise introduces constant comedic tension and physical proximity, causing a confusing attraction to bloom between employer and bodyguard. Preparing for the demanding gender-bender role required immense physical rigor and psychological nuance, as star Seol In-ah explained in an interview with Soompi. “Rather than ‘acting like a man,’ I prepared by focusing on ‘what it would look like if Kang Jae Hee were to disguise herself as a man,'” she remarked regarding her process.

A Star-Studded Ensemble and Complex Characters

Headlining the series as Yoon Yi-jun is acclaimed actor Yim Si-wan, known worldwide for his transformative roles in ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Run On’. Opposite him, Seol In-ah brings her charismatic presence from ‘Business Proposal’ to embody Jae-hee’s razor-sharp martial arts prowess and vulnerable core. Their dynamic constantly wobbles between a fierce investigative probe and an emotionally tangled workplace romance.

Yi-jun’s emotional isolation became a central anchor during development, which Yim detailed while analyzing the character’s profound loneliness and defensive personality. “Aside from the fact that he is wealthy, I think he is deprived in many ways,” Yim told FirstClasse Malaysia regarding Yi-jun’s hidden trauma. “He’s thirsty for love, both love for humanity and connection with others, and I think he’s really struggling to protect himself.”

The male disguise also sparked plenty of lighthearted moments behind the scenes during filming. Seol recalled inadvertently walking into a public women’s restroom while still wearing her male wardrobe, resulting in screams of confusion from startled patrons. Beyond the two leads, Kim Jung-hyun stars as corporate lawyer Kim Si-hyun, while Yeonwoo portrays secretive executive secretary Lee Hye-jung, establishing an intriguing secondary romantic arc.

Creative Pedigree, Trailer Details, and Streaming Rollout

Behind the camera, the production is helmed by director Park Dan-hee, who previously showcased stylish visual storytelling in ‘Weak Hero Class 1’, alongside screenwriter Moon Soo-jung. Together with CJ ENM Studios and Pitapat Studio, the creative team spent three months conducting extensive table readings to refine the show’s intricate tone. The narrative balances three key narrative pillars: sharp thriller elements, genuine romantic chemistry, and laugh-out-loud workplace misunderstandings.

Promotional teasers released by Prime Video showcase Jae-hee subduing adversaries with martial arts before donning tailored suits to secure employment with Yi-jun. Subsequent scenes capture humorous mishaps, such as accidentally walking in on Yi-jun changing, before shifting to high-stakes suspense where Yi-jun confronts her in isolation. With sharp banter and genuine corporate danger, ‘Love in Disguise’ presents an irresistible blend of intrigue and romance.
