Doctor Doom Takes His Throne in Eerie New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo Art
Great villains are often defined by where they sit. Thanos had his quiet farm and Loki had a throne in Asgard, but Doctor Doom’s seat of power has been part of Marvel mythology for decades. That makes any new look at Doctor Doom’s throne room a big moment for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ fans.
In the comics, Victor von Doom is the ruler of Latveria, a small European nation whose economy depends largely on his high-tech inventions. He has been dethroned multiple times, and he has invariably returned to the throne within months. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Doom has long been one of Marvel’s most imposing villains.
Now Marvel’s promotional push has delivered a fresh look at that seat of power. The new artwork shows Doom in armor and a hood, seated on a towering stone throne at the top of a wide staircase. Tall stained-glass windows bathe the room in an eerie green glow, and runic carvings run along the steps.
It’s a quieter image than most of the campaign’s big team-up art, and it works because of that. Doom doesn’t need to be mid-battle to look dangerous, since the room itself does the work. The sense of scale and the cold stone suggest a ruler comfortable with absolute control.

The art follows a recent run of Latveria-themed promotion. A ‘Team Doom’ poster placed Doom in a towering throne room with three Latverian Witches behind him, with two torches burning on either side of the staircase and a seal carved into the floor. A ‘Magic: The Gathering’ promo card showed Doom in a green cloak flanked by the same hooded figures, and the witches are one of the biggest mysteries of the film’s marketing.
The Comic-Con trailer also reportedly opened with Doom seated on his throne in Latveria. All of that points to the throne room being a central location in the film. Collectors have also noticed the details, since a new Hot Toys and Sideshow throne accessory recreates the design from the film, complete with a towering backrest, wide winged base, cantilevered armrests, gold runic details and a green stained-glass backdrop.
Robert Downey Jr. was revealed as Doom at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, unmasking onstage surrounded by robed figures in Doom masks. He reportedly developed his own backstory for the character and contributed costume ideas. That level of involvement helps explain why Doom has become the face of the campaign.
The MCU has also been laying groundwork. ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ showed an empty seat for Latveria at a United Nations scene, and its post-credits scene teased Doom, who is believed to come from the same Earth-828 as the new Fantastic Four. A new Hot Toys figure also shows a second costume, based on the Supreme Ruler of Latveria look from that scene. In the trailer, Doom’s voice narrates the first half, and fans immediately noticed his accent.

The bigger question is what Doom plans to do from that throne. The film brings together heroes from three universes, and reports suggest Doom will use incursions to reshape the multiverse in his own image. One of the post-credits scenes in the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ re-release also shows him apparently recruiting Bruce Banner, so his court may be growing.
It’s a reminder that this villain doesn’t just fight heroes, he builds worlds. If the film follows the comics, the throne could become the symbol of a much larger takeover. That would set up ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which arrives on December 17, 2027.
For now, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens December 18, with some regions getting it on December 16. Domestic pre-sales have reportedly passed $50 million, and the first trailer became the second-biggest trailer launch on record. Anthony Russo has said the current cut runs about two and a half hours.
