The Ultimate Marvel Collectible Goes Up for Grabs: A Real-Gem Infinity Gauntlet Heads to Auction With an Eye-Watering Starting Bid

Few props in pop culture carry the weight of the Infinity Gauntlet. It’s the glove Thanos used to erase half of all life with a snap of his fingers in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ and it has been a dream collectible for fans ever since. Now the Infinity Gauntlet auction is turning that fantasy into something a very wealthy collector can actually own.

The story goes back to 2022, when Marvel and the New York jeweler East Continental Gems showed off a gem-set Infinity Gauntlet at San Diego Comic-Con. It was displayed at Marvel’s booth and was valued at over $25 million, but it wasn’t for sale at the time. Gentle Giant Ltd. crafted the gauntlet itself, while ECG supplied the real gemstones.

Four years later, the piece is finally hitting the market. The IGN Store is partnering with East Continental Gems and Julien’s Auctions to auction the 1-of-1 Infinity Gauntlet replica with real gemstones this December, with a starting bid of $25 million. The sale is set for December 8 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi.

The replica holds six real gemstones, a ruby, garnet, sapphire, amethyst, emerald and yellow diamond, and each one represents one of the Infinity Stones. In the 2022 version, the stones were described as a Colombian emerald, a Madagascan sapphire and a Mozambican ruby, along with an amethyst, a spessartite and a yellow diamond. The original collection was said to weigh more than 150 carats, though the auctioneer now says the untreated gemstones weigh more than 170 carats combined.

The piece is a one-of-one recreation made using design files supplied by Marvel. Julien’s says that until this commission, the gauntlet had never been realized as a fine collector object set with real gemstones. It was made once by agreement with Marvel and Disney.

The gauntlet will be a headline lot of Julien’s Auctions’ Celebrity & Culture Experience, hosted at Rosewood Abu Dhabi. Before that, it will tour Bahrain throughout November, so fans and collectors will get a chance to see it up close. Julien’s said full lot details, photography and certification documentation will be published before the sale.

Prospective bidders are encouraged to contact the auction house early to discuss the lot and begin the approval process. That’s a reminder that this is a serious collectors’ sale, not a fan giveaway.

Talia Friedman, who leads special projects for Julien’s Auctions, told Reuters that the piece could appeal to a wide mix of people. She said buyers might love it as passionate Marvel fans, as jewelry collectors or because they want a trophy, and she noted it could also attract art collectors. Julien’s CEO Ken Citron described the collectible as occupying an unusual position between jewelry, film memorabilia and popular culture.

East Continental Gems is a family firm that has operated from the same New York office since 1972. Its president, Adam Mirzoeff, reportedly came up with the idea while watching ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with his kids. The company has since sold smaller versions, including a 9-inch Collector’s Edition replica made of solid brass with six real gemstones totaling 3.18 carats, which reportedly sold out within hours of going on pre-order at $16,129.99.

The auction comes just ahead of the release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which arrives in theaters on December 18. That timing is no coincidence, given how closely the gauntlet is tied to the Avengers saga. A trophy this iconic is bound to attract attention as Marvel hype builds.

Whether it sells at or far above the starting bid, the event is already a landmark for pop culture collectibles. It’s rare for a prop-inspired piece to blend high jewelry, film memorabilia and fandom so directly.
