Guy Ritchie’s gangster-meets-gentry saga has never been shy about growing its ambitions. After trading English countryside estates for Italian lakes in its second outing, ‘The Gentlemen‘ is now packing for an even bigger trip. Netflix has been drip-feeding updates since cameras started rolling, and fans finally have something to look at.

The show’s expansion has come quickly. Netflix renewed the series about a week before its second season premiered on September 3, then confirmed production in the UK and Morocco. The new batch of episodes will again total 8 hour-long chapters, with Ritchie directing and co-writing alongside Matthew Read.

Now comes the first look at ‘The Gentlemen’ in Morocco, and it’s a glamorous one. The image shows a man in a light-blue shirt and suspenders seated beside a woman in a patterned knit dress, both posed at a small tea table with a brass teapot. Behind them, a lavish tent with red drapes, lanterns and hookah pipes frames sweeping golden dunes, and the pair appear to be the show’s leads, Eddie and Susie.

The location isn’t just a pretty backdrop. Filming began on September 13 in Rabat, the Moroccan capital, with the desert region of Erfoud also used for the Middle East-set material. Erfoud is the gateway to the Saharan dunes of Erg Chebbi, which would explain the sandy horizon in the new image.

The story justifies the move. Netflix’s official logline says Eddie and Susie are embarking on their most audacious project yet: building a casino in the Middle East. It also teases that danger is lurking around every corner, and asks whether the Duke’s unchecked ambition has finally gone too far.

The cast list is getting bigger, too. Robert Carlyle, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom are joining the series alongside returning stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, and all 3 newcomers will be working with Ritchie for the first time. Wood and Bloom, who spent years together on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ films, are reuniting on screen.

The Carlyle casting has a fun back story. James had previously said he’d love to see someone in the vein of old-school Robert Carlyle, in an interview with Digital Spy. Meghan Markle rumors, meanwhile, did not come to fruition.

James has described the new season as gnarly, promising that the darkness seen in Eddie’s story last season will be expanded. He also teased new locations and new characters as the show continues to widen its world. The Moroccan sets certainly suggest that Ritchie isn’t pulling any punches.

Season 2 set the stage in grisly fashion. It ended with Eddie forcing his own brother to kill a man with a chainsaw, after Bella’s death ignited a bloody war. That sets up a lead character who is increasingly ruthless, which makes a casino empire in the desert feel like a natural next step.

Not everything has gone perfectly on location. What’s on Netflix reports that the sets flooded toward the end of the Morocco leg of filming. Netflix hasn’t addressed that, and it doesn’t appear to have derailed the schedule.

The shoot also started far earlier than most expected. Cameras rolled just 10 days after season 2 premiered, a quick turnaround that reflects how confident Netflix is in the series. Season 2 also finished in a strong position despite a softer opening week than the first season.

Netflix hasn’t announced a premiere date or release window, and it probably won’t for a while. Season 2 took around 18 months to go from cameras rolling to release, and some outlets expect the new episodes to arrive in 2028. There was a 2-year gap between the first 2 seasons, so that estimate seems reasonable.

For now, fans will have to be content with first-look photos and set rumors. If the desert tent scene is any indication, Eddie and Susie are about to swap their tailored suits and countryside manors for a far more dangerous playground.
