‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Descriptions Reveal Sam Wilson Has Assembled His Own Avengers, and Falcon Is Ready for Takeoff
Marvel has spent months drip-feeding fans about ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and the biggest unanswered question may be who exactly is leading the heroes. With Doctor Doom front and center in the marketing and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers back in the fold, it hasn’t always been clear where Sam Wilson fits. A pair of new character descriptions is now clearing that up.
The film’s ensemble is enormous, and its trailers have spread the spotlight across a long list of familiar faces. That has made the question of Captain America’s role a recurring fan debate since the first teaser dropped in December.
The first descriptions for Captain America and the Falcon in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ put Anthony Mackie’s hero squarely at the center of the story. Sam Wilson’s blurb says he has assembled the Avengers and leads this diverse group of heroes as they face the collision between 3 different universes. Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres gets an equally confident write-up, described as back in action and ready to take off alongside Captain America’s Avengers.
The wording is notable. It doesn’t present Sam as a supporting player in someone else’s story, but as the person who brought the team together. That fits a thread running through recent Marvel projects, in which Wilson has been quietly working toward reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ ended with Sam ready to bring the Avengers back, and the post-credits scene of ‘Thunderbolts’ suggested he was pressing ahead with that plan. The new description confirms it paid off. The exact source of the blurbs hasn’t been spelled out, but they match the way Marvel has framed the film’s premise so far.

The Torres description gives Danny Ramirez a more active role than a simple sidekick. Torres is an Air Force lieutenant and Sam’s closest ally, and he inherited the Falcon mantle when Sam took up the shield after ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ The line about him being ready to take off suggests he will be in the thick of the action.
The accompanying image shows the 2 heroes standing side by side on what looks like a ship’s deck. Wilson wears his Captain America suit and carries a helmet, while Torres is in his Falcon gear. It’s a visual that reinforces the idea of a partnership at the heart of Sam’s team.
Not everyone is happy about how Steve Rogers’ return fits into this picture. Marvel confirmed Chris Evans’ comeback in December with a teaser reading ‘Steve Rogers will return.’ It reportedly gives him a central role, including a mission with Thor to find Loki, which has led some fans to worry he may overshadow Sam.
Mackie has addressed the subject in interviews, saying that Steve Rogers is returning but not as Captain America. The new description appears to back that up by placing the title and the leadership firmly with Sam. It also suggests that the 2 men may be leading different groups of heroes who eventually collide.

A Disney event in Italy last December offered a hint of the roster. It presented Sam Wilson, Thor, Loki, Shang-Chi, Falcon and Ant-Man together as ‘the Heroic Avengers.’ The grouping was a surprise because it included Loki, whose return remains one of the film’s biggest mysteries.
Fan theories have suggested Sam’s team could use Loki’s multiversal knowledge to track down Doom. The official line is that heroes from 3 distinct universes are set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve encountered. With the Fantastic Four and the X-Men also in play, the film has several teams to juggle.
Marvel has been steadily raising the temperature. A full trailer arrived in July, a special look landed at D23 in August and fan installations are popping up around the world. Doom’s throne has been the centerpiece of most of them, which makes a spotlight on the heroes feel overdue.
The film arrives in theaters on December 18, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, and leads directly into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027. If these descriptions are any indication, Sam Wilson won’t just be along for the ride. He’s the one holding the shield.
Is Sam Wilson ready to lead the Avengers against Doctor Doom in 'Avengers: Doomsday'?
