Marvel’s ‘X-Men‘ reboot has spent months in casting limbo, with fans trading rumors, fancasts and wishlists about who would play the team’s brilliant, blue-furred genius. Every time a name surfaced, the internet debated it for days. Now a fresh report suggests the search for Hank McCoy may finally be over.

The role of Beast has long been one of the most closely watched pieces of the new mutant puzzle. Kelsey Grammer made the character famous in 2007’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and is returning in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, while Nicholas Hoult played a younger version across the ‘First Class’ era. Whoever steps in next has big shoes to fill.

According to an exclusive from Knight Edge Media, Irish actor Peter Claffey has been cast as Hank McCoy/Beast in Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ reboot. Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed the news, so it remains a report for now. Still, it lands with the weight of a story many fans had been waiting to hear.

Claffey rose to fame playing Ser Duncan the Tall, better known as Dunk, in HBO’s ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’. The ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff made him a leading man, and his run in the role has been widely praised. That breakout is reportedly what put him on Marvel’s radar.

Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ Reboot Cast Is Reportedly Almost Complete

The casting did not come out of nowhere. Insider Jeff Sneider first rumored Claffey for Beast back in April, and fans began fancasting him almost immediately. At the time, the actor was reported to be among those eyed for the part, alongside other names that have floated around, including Charles Melton.

Plenty of other actors were linked to Hank McCoy as well, which made the speculation messy. Director Jake Schreier even pushed back on online casting reports, making clear that nothing was official. That is part of why this latest report feels significant, since it names one actor firmly rather than adding another maybe to the pile.

Early reaction appears overwhelmingly positive. Coverage of the news says most ‘X-Men’ fans are thrilled by the choice, with many calling it a perfect fit. Claffey’s rugby background and physical presence have made him an easy sell for a character defined by strength and agility, as well as an extraordinary mind.

His age has also sparked some curiosity. Fans are wondering whether Claffey’s version of Beast will work alongside Charles Xavier rather than appear as a student when he’s introduced. It’s an interesting question for a reboot that Marvel has said will lean on younger actors across the roster.

Claffey would join an ensemble that Marvel started unveiling at D23 in August. The report lists Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Asa Germann is Angel and Maya Boyd is Storm, while Adam Driver is playing the villain Mister Sinister.

That is a mix of rising talent and established names, and Beast has been one of the last major pieces still missing. Casting for the team isn’t entirely wrapped either, since Iceman is reportedly still being cast. Filming is expected to begin in early 2027.

One lingering question is how the character will look on screen. Earlier reports claim Marvel wants to differentiate the film from previous ‘X-Men’ movies by keeping Beast in his human form, with oversized hands and feet but no blue fur. That has not been confirmed, and it would be a big departure from how fans have seen the character before.

Whatever the final look, Claffey brings an unusual combination of gentle charm and physical size, which is exactly what made Dunk so beloved. If Marvel can capture even a bit of that warmth in Hank McCoy, this could be one of the reboot’s strongest pieces of casting.

What do you think of Peter Claffey reportedly playing Beast in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot?
