‘Marshals’ Season 2 Episode 4 Recap and Ending Explained: Kayce and Andrea Are Caught in a Bomber’s Blast
Few spin-offs keep a legacy hero’s past hovering over every case, but ‘Marshals’ keeps finding new ways to drag Kayce Dutton’s history into the present. The latest ‘Marshals‘ ending proves that old mistakes have a way of coming back with a lit fuse.
The ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off premiered on CBS on March 1, 2026, and its second season began on October 4. That return followed a first season that averaged 19.3 million multiplatform viewers per episode. The premiere ended with the death of Dolly Weaver, a fallout of Tom Weaver kidnapping Tate at the end of season 1.
The fourth episode, “Blast Radius,” aired on October 25 and sends the team after a notorious bomber who once slipped through Cal’s fingers. It also delivers the season’s first cliffhanger, and a first multi-part story for season 2.
The hour opens with Kayce dreaming about the day he received the Dutton brand, a painful reminder of how complicated his relationship with his father was. After waking, he texts Andrea to see if she’s up, and the pair head out on a late-night mission.
Andrea has a list of fugitives they can try to bring in, and they round up quite a few before sunrise. Their chemistry feels natural, and it is becoming one of the season’s more interesting developments. Andrea is also still dealing with hallucinations tied to the PTSD from her kidnapping.
One of those arrests leads to intel on a “top 15” fugitive named Rudy Carpenter, who first appeared in season 1, episode 4. During that earlier encounter, the Marshals let Carpenter escape because saving Tom Weaver’s life took priority. Because Andrea got the original tip, Gifford puts her in charge of the hunt, which he also treats as training for when she fills in for Cal during his medical leave.
The investigation widens quickly. After questioning members of the Disciples, the Marshals learn that Rudy has access to explosives, and Cal spots evidence of an explosion in security footage. Kayce and Belle also visit Rudy’s ex at a country club, where she warns them that he won’t go back to prison and always has an escape plan.

The trail leads the Marshals to an old farm outside Bozeman that looks like a bomb-testing site. Among the evidence is a broken shotgun, the same one Cal and Kayce lost to the fugitive last season.
The Marshals find Carpenter hiding at the farm, and he appears to be injured in a shoot-out. Down but not out, he detonates a bomb in the final moments, blowing up the barn with Kayce, Andrea and himself inside. The episode cuts away without revealing whether either of them survived.
That makes the explosion the answer to Rudy’s escape plan, and it leaves Kayce and Andrea’s fate hanging. Some outlets are already worried about a regular character, and the setup suggests the next episode picks up the aftermath rather than starting a fresh case.

The bomber hunt isn’t the only pressure on the team. Cal admits he told Gifford about his cancer, and Gifford is coming in to talk. Miles knows why Cal seems off, but he has promised his boss not to tell Maddie. The previous episode showed Cal preparing for chemotherapy.
Belle has her own ticking clock. She returns to her car with her son to find the driver’s window smashed, and a man warns her that the casino needs its money now, giving her 48 hours. Her deadline suggests more trouble ahead.
The season will run into 2027, so the show has plenty of room to play out the fallout. The episode works because it ties Kayce’s nightmares, Cal’s guilt over the one that got away and Andrea’s growing responsibility into a single explosion.
Do you think Kayce and Andrea survived the blast?
