Marvel’s ‘Ghost Rider’ Reportedly Finds Its Villain in a ‘Heated Rivalry’ Breakout
Few Marvel characters carry as much fiery mystique as the skull-headed Spirit of Vengeance, and the studio’s latest attempt to bring him back is taking shape fast. Marvel has already set a release date for the film, with ‘Ghost Rider’ roaring into theaters on July 28, 2028. That leaves plenty of runway for the studio to build a cast worth the wait.
The early pieces are already in place. It’s expected Ryan Gosling will play Johnny Blaze, although Marvel has not officially confirmed that, since there have been several versions of Ghost Rider over the years. Shawn Levy is directing the film for Marvel.
Now the project may have its first major piece of antagonist casting. Cosmic Marvel highlighted the news on X, pointing to a report that Connor Storrie is in talks to play the villain in ‘Ghost Rider’. The Hollywood Reporter reported on Oct. 27 that Storrie is in talks to star opposite Gosling, with co-author Borys Kit describing the prospective role as a villain.
The big question is which villain he would actually be playing. It is not known which character Storrie would be playing. The Hollywood Reporter’s report does not identify the villain either.
That hasn’t stopped fans and outlets from guessing. One potential character Storrie could be playing is Blackheart, a demon from the pages of Marvel Comics who is the son of Mephisto. It’s a reasonable theory for a story built on hellfire, but for now it remains speculation.
The report also didn’t stay with a single outlet for long. Knight Edge Media first reported Storrie’s attachment to the project, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming he’s in talks for the film’s villain. Deadline, Variety, TheWrap and Entertainment Weekly have since confirmed the talks.
For Storrie, the move would be a huge leap in profile. He is a breakout star of ‘Heated Rivalry’. Audiences may also have spotted him in ‘Criminal Minds’ and in recent films such as ‘Riley’ and ‘April X’.
Marvel’s reboot is also picking up momentum behind the camera. A report from ComicBookMovie notes that a ‘Dune: Part Three’ cinematographer has joined the MCU movie, which is quickly taking shape ahead of its 2028 release. Each new addition suggests the studio is assembling the film carefully rather than rushing it.
It’s worth remembering that this is still a case of talks rather than a signed deal, and Marvel hasn’t commented publicly on the casting. Even so, the idea of a rising star facing off with Gosling’s Ghost Rider has already given fans plenty to debate. With nearly 2 years until release, expect more details about Storrie’s mystery villain to surface in the months ahead.
