Spoilers ahead for the full finale. ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga‘ has spent its first season showing that the music business and the drug trade run on the same logic of ownership and control. The FX spinoff premiered on September 8, picking up the story of ‘Snowfall’ characters Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they try to reinvent themselves in 1990s Los Angeles. Its first season ended with “Hercules”, an episode of roughly 57 minutes that aired on October 27.

The original ‘Snowfall’ ran for six seasons before ending in 2023, and this follow-up shifts attention from Franklin Saint to the rise of West Coast rap. Gail Bean returns as Wanda and Isaiah John as Leon, with Brandon Mychal Smith as the ruthless Darryl “DG” Grant. Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, Mykelti Williamson and Simmie “Buddy” Sims III round out the cast.

The finale picks up after the murder of Keith, a key figure in Artillery’s circle, which has shifted the balance of power around Black Banner. By the end, Wanda secures leverage over her artists but pays a heavy personal price, while Leon is pulled back into the violence he fought to escape. Here is how it all plays out.

The episode opens with DG celebrating the album’s completion and then telling Wanda her services are no longer needed at Macroscope. She is willing to leave only if she can take Lamar and Artillery with her, but DG refuses, insisting she has no value without her artists. He is convinced no respectable label will hire a female A&R executive with no track record.

Wanda has other plans. She approaches another distributor, then forms an unlikely alliance with Dara (Aleyse Shannon), who has her own reasons for wanting DG gone. To win Dara over, she reveals that Leon knows who killed Keith but shared that information with her instead of Dara.

Lamar, recovering from a brutal beating by the Crips, returns home wearing a sling and a new sense of humility. He apologizes to his brother James, who tells him he cannot lose another brother. Lamar also reconciles with Big Daddy and the rest of his family, finally finding some peace after learning the truth about his parents.

Wanda’s plan is to steal the album’s master recordings and force DG to negotiate. She compares the music business to the drug economy, noting that controlling the masters means controlling the product. Lamar gets into DG’s office under false pretenses and lets James in through a rear entrance, and the brothers escape with the recordings.

Holding the masters gives Wanda the upper hand at the confrontation. When she tells DG he does not belong in the recording industry, he loses his temper and smashes a glass into her head in front of Jenny. Jenny responds by cutting ties between Macroscope and Black Banner and firing DG.

DG refuses to accept defeat and contacts Deon to settle things through violence. They chase Dara into an alley, intending to kill her, but Leon emerges from the shadows and shoots Deon. He then hands DG over to the Crips, revealing that Dara helped set the trap, which leaves DG’s fate in their hands.

Leon’s victory comes at a cost. His deception about Keith’s murder has destroyed Dara’s trust, and their relationship cannot survive it. Earlier, Big Daddy told him that good men sometimes make terrible choices to protect the people they love, a lesson that shapes his actions.

The finale frames everything as a tragedy of ambition. After Wanda visits Leon at his office, her refusal to acknowledge the damage she has caused leads him to close the door on her. The next morning, Leon studies a photograph of Cissy Saint, Franklin’s mother, before taking a gun and a box and leaving his office.

That image links Leon directly to ‘Snowfall’, recalling another person who made an irreversible decision to protect family. A man who spent the season running a legal clinic ends it handling a problem the old way. It suggests he has lost the peace he worked so hard to build.

Wanda, meanwhile, insists another company will recognize the album’s potential, even after Macroscope blackballs her. Lamar invites her inside to join the family, but her pride keeps her away. She walks off alone, having gained leverage over the music while sacrificing much of the emotional foundation behind her recovery.

The closing scene belongs to Lamar. To the sound of “Like a Ship” by Pastor T.L. Barrett and The Youth for Christ Choir, he sits down to a family meal with Big Daddy and James at Mama Gerty’s home. It is the season’s warmest moment, suggesting forgiveness may matter more than fame.

FX has not renewed or canceled the series, and no premiere date or second-season cast has been announced. The show has not been positioned as a limited series, which leaves the door open. Creator Malcolm Spellman has said some story elements, including Wanda’s parents, had to wait for a second season.
