Fast food and blockbuster movies have been natural partners for decades, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is proving to be no exception. A film with this many heroes, villains and logos gives brands plenty of material for themed menus, packaging and collectibles. The latest company to join the campaign is Jack in the Box, and it has brought a lot of puns.

The chain first teased the collaboration with a short video that parodied the film’s ominous marketing. In it, its mascot Jack sat on a throne in a dark, green-lit hall wearing a Doctor Doom-inspired cape and hood, with a mysterious vault-like box beside him. The teaser gave no details about what the partnership would involve.

Now the details are in. On October 27, Jack in the Box announced the Doomsday Dipping Box, a limited-time Marvel Studios collaboration that arrives at participating restaurants nationwide on November 5. It will also be available through the Jack app and JackintheBox.com while supplies last, and pricing has not yet been announced.

The Doomsday Dipping Box comes in custom film-themed packaging and includes Popcorn Chicken, 2 Mozzarella Sticks, 2 of Jack’s tacos, seasoned curly fries and a drink. It also comes with 3 themed dipping sauces, which is where the Marvel wordplay really shows up. The graphic circulating online shows all of the components laid out around the green box.

The first sauce is the Assemble Sauce, an all-new mystery sauce created for what the chain calls Doomsday meal prepping. The second is Mutant Marinara, a returning limited-time marinara that nods to the mutants joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The third is the Fantastic Buttermilk Ranch, Jack’s classic buttermilk ranch renamed with a wink to the Fantastic Four.

Two fan favorites are also coming back as part of the promotion, both in the box and on their own. Popcorn Chicken returns in Small and Big Boxes and in a combo meal. Mozzarella Sticks are back in 4-piece and 6-piece orders, each served with Mutant Marinara.

That means fans who do not want the full box can still pick up the sauces’ flavors through the individual items. It also gives the chain a way to tie the whole menu to the film without requiring a single big purchase.

The collectible element may be the real draw. Each Doomsday Dipping Box comes with 1 random blind-bagged magnet inspired by the film, available while supplies last. There are 8 magnets in total, and they connect like puzzle pieces so fans can assemble a team.

The designs shown in the promotional image are hexagonal pieces that carry the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four logos, along with a Jack in the Box mascot figure seated on a throne. The blind-bag format makes it likely that collectors will return more than once. The tagline for the set is simple: collect all 8.

Jack in the Box says it wants to collide fandoms rather than simply tap into them. Chief Marketing Officer Katelyn Zborowski said in the company’s announcement, “At Jack in the Box, we don’t just tap into fandoms, we collide them.” She described the box as a larger-than-life expression of what happens when epic fandom meets unmissable food moments.

The chain has been leaning into this approach. It recently released a Munchie Meal of Horror inspired by the ‘Treehouse of Horror’ episodes of ‘The Simpsons’, and the Marvel promotion fits the same pattern. Limited-time menus tied to pop culture give it a reason to bring customers back.

The collaboration joins a long list of tie-ins for the film. Theater chains around the world have revealed Doctor Doom popcorn buckets and cups, Hot Toys has unveiled a giant Sentinel figure, and Marvel has been releasing new promos almost daily. Jack in the Box adds a more casual, drive-thru version of that excitement.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opening on December 18, the November 5 launch gives the chain about 6 weeks of runway. That is enough time for fans to chase the full magnet set, especially with blind bags driving repeat visits. It also keeps the film in everyday conversation well before opening weekend.

Whether the Assemble Sauce lives up to the mystery remains to be seen. For now, the main question is which dipping sauce will become the fan favorite.
