New Look at Doctor Doom Using His Powers in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Released
For months, Marvel’s marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has shown Doctor Doom as a presence rather than an action figure. He has stood on thrones, loomed over crowds and stared out from stained glass, but he has rarely been caught actually doing anything. The latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Doctor Doom powers poster changes that, giving fans a glimpse of the villain using his abilities.
The new artwork is part of the film’s Dolby Cinema promotion, and it arrives ahead of the December 18 release. It follows a wave of premium-format posters released this week for formats including RealD 3D and 4DX. Of all of them, the Dolby poster is the one that shows Doom in motion.
The image shows a hooded Doom in profile, head bowed, looking down at his right hand. In his armored palm, a ball of glowing green energy hovers, lighting up the metal of his gauntlet and the edge of his mask. Rain and embers fall around him, and a ruined landscape with a bare tree sits under a stormy sky.
The poster carries the line “Discover it at Dolby Cinema” and the December 18 date. It is the most atmospheric of the format posters so far, and it ties directly to the question of what Doom can do.

Marvel’s own description of the character explains why the glowing hand matters. In the first official description, tied to an official coloring book for the film, Victor Von Doom is the mysterious and enigmatic monarch of Latveria and a master of both sorcery and technology. It adds that he has an intellect to rival Reed Richards and a will to match, and that no one can truly know what hides behind his impenetrable mask.
That blend is what sets him apart. In the comics, Doom is a scientific genius who builds time machines and robot doubles, and he is also a practicing sorcerer. The poster leans into the magical half, which fits the studio’s emphasis on that side of the character.
The Russo brothers have said that Doom’s magical side will be a major element of the film. They have also pointed to the importance of the Latverian witches, and at least three of them appear in the marketing alongside him. A ‘Team Doom’ poster showed him in his throne room with the witches on the stairs in different colors.
Meanwhile, the film’s Comic-Con display of a trophy room left fans asking whether Doom has already defeated enemies such as Thanos, Ultron and the Silver Surfer. Marvel hasn’t answered, but the poster adds to that sense of overwhelming power.
Reports on the footage have described Doom casually stopping Thor’s Stormbreaker with a single movement of his hand, and the trailer is said to end on a shot of him controlling the Sentinels. If accurate, that suggests a character whose abilities can overpower even the strongest Avenger. The green energy on the Dolby poster looks like a visual shorthand for that command.
Doom’s face remains the great mystery. Marvel revealed Robert Downey Jr. as Doom at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 by having him remove a mask onstage, but the footage has kept his face hidden since then. The description of an impenetrable mask suggests the studio intends to keep it that way for as long as possible.

Dolby Cinema is one of the formats covered by Disney’s Infinity Vision certification, along with 4DX, ScreenX and D-Box. Because ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds the exclusive IMAX run for three weeks, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is relying on those premium screens. Infinity Vision tickets went on sale in July, and presales have reportedly passed $125 million, though the only domestic figure Disney has confirmed is $50 million.
The film opens on December 18 in the US, and two days earlier in places such as the UK and China. Tickets are available through Fandango and theater websites.
The poster also reinforces how deliberately Marvel is treating Doom as the center of the film. Every new piece of artwork adds a different facet, whether it’s a throne, a mask or a spell. Showing him with a glowing hand is a way of promising that this villain will be as dangerous as he looks.
With about seven weeks to go, the studio will likely reveal more. A final trailer is expected in mid-November, and fans will be watching for any sign of what that green energy means.
