Doctor Doom Rules Every Format in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Posters, From Stained Glass to Storm Clouds

Marvel doesn’t usually build a campaign around a villain’s face, but ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has made that its signature move. Instead of a crowded team shot, the studio has spent months showing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in green light, stained glass and shadow. The latest batch of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Doctor Doom posters pushes that approach further, with each one built for a different way of seeing the film.

The posters promote the film’s premium formats and ticketing partners, and every one carries the December 18 release date. Together they show how deliberately Marvel is tailoring its artwork to each audience, from large-format fans to casual ticket buyers.

The most striking new image is the Infinity Vision poster, which places Doom inside an arched stained-glass window. He stands in a green cloak and hood with his hands raised, and the words “See it in Infinity Vision” run across the top. The design echoes the stained-glass look that has defined much of the film’s artwork since its first poster in late 2025.

The 4DX poster takes a more cinematic approach. Doom stands in dark armor and a long cape against a stormy sky, with the line “Feel it in 4DX” and the Infinity Vision label below the logo. The RealD 3D poster is a tight close-up of his metal mask in glowing green, under the words “Meet Your Doom in RealD 3D” and the date 12.18.26.

Fandango’s exclusive poster is the quietest of the set. It shows Doom seated on a throne in dark, riveted armor, lit by warm light pouring through tall stained-glass windows, with a fist resting near his chin. The ticketing company paired it with the tagline “All roads lead to Doom” and a prompt to reserve tickets.

The line fits the film’s central idea, which sets heroes from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men on a collision course with one villain. It also reinforces the studio’s decision to make Doom the unifying face of the campaign.

The strategy has been consistent. Doom received the first solo villain poster in MCU history, followed by a throne-room ‘Team Doom’ poster with the Latverian witches, and at least 25 pieces of artwork have surfaced online. Taglines such as “Doom Has No Rivals” and “Doom Does Not Beg” have set an ominous tone.

Not every poster has landed with fans. A seven-hero lineup drew criticism for its choices, which shows how much more confident the studio seems when it centers on its villain.

The format posters aren’t just decoration. ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds the exclusive IMAX run for three weeks from December 18, so ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ can’t use IMAX screens at launch. Disney responded with Infinity Vision, a premium large format certification that debuted with the ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ re-release on September 25.

Disney’s CFO has said presales passed $50 million domestically months before release, with more than 70% tied to Infinity Vision. Reports say about 5,500 screens globally are certified, and the label appears prominently on the new posters.

The Russo brothers direct, and the movie brings together heroes from three universes to confront Doom. Its runtime was reported as 165 minutes when tickets first went on sale, though Anthony Russo has since given a looser estimate of around 150 minutes. Neither figure is final, so the exact length may change.

Fan events are also planned. A RealD 3D Fan Event on December 20 will give every guest collectible 3D glasses with one of five mystery logos, and Regal is offering a Doctor Doom card for opening weekend Infinity Vision screenings from December 17 to 20.

With roughly seven weeks to go, more reveals are likely. A final trailer is expected in mid-November, and merchandise such as popcorn buckets and collectibles is already rolling out at theaters. Each new poster adds to the sense that Marvel is treating the film as a coronation for its new villain.

For fans, the artwork serves as both a preview and a reminder of the stakes. Choosing a format may soon be as important as choosing a showtime.
