New Look at Doctor Doom Controlling the Sentinels in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Revealed
The X-Men have fought a lot of enemies over the years, but few have haunted them like the Sentinels. These towering, mutant-hunting robots have long stood for humanity’s fear of the unknown, and fans have waited a very long time to see them take their place in Marvel’s shared universe. Now a new Infinity Vision poster offers a fresh look at Doctor Doom controlling the Sentinels in ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘.
The poster shows Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom in his hooded metal mask, standing amid green mist and flying debris with one hand outstretched. Shadowy, hulking shapes loom behind him in the haze, framing him as the commander of something far larger than himself. The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo sits above the Infinity Vision branding and the December 18 date.
The poster builds on a moment from the film’s footage. At Comic-Con, Marvel’s special look showed Doom catching Thor’s hammer and tossing it aside, then raising an army of Sentinels from the ground. The version released at D23 ended the same way, with Doom placing a hand toward the earth as a field of damaged Sentinels rose around him.
One report on the footage says Doom answered with a line declaring that hell answers to him. Whether or not that wording holds, the image of a ruler summoning an army of machines has become the defining visual of the campaign.

The Sentinels are the mutant-hunting robots from the X-Men films and comics. Fox’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ featured them in 2014, and they have made only brief appearances in earlier Marvel projects, but ‘Doomsday’ marks their official full debut in the MCU. In the comics, they are often controlled or weaponized by governments.
Here, Doom seems to have turned them into an extension of his own power. That twist matters because it places the X-Men’s greatest fear in the hands of the film’s central villain.
New promotional images show the Sentinels with plum-colored armor, glowing green eyes and comic-accurate detailing. Compared to their look in ‘Days of Future Past’, they are more heavily armored and have more angular faces. The green glow ties them visually to Doom’s palette.
Collectibles have also leaned into the design. Hot Toys has unveiled a Sentinel figure, and its Cyclops and Magneto deluxe versions include battle-damaged Sentinel bases with light-up eyes. A separate set includes a figure with six interchangeable hands, along with a miniature Doom posed with outstretched arms on a rocky base that recreates the moment he summons the machines.

The robots have even reached theaters’ merchandise. Regal’s lineup includes a collectible Sentinel drink vessel shaped like a pale gray head with glowing green eyes, and AMC is offering a Sentinel Head bucket, both arriving on December 17. Their presence alongside Doom’s Throne shows how central the machines have become to the film’s identity.
An international poster pairing Doom with the Sentinels also appeared at Lucca Comics & Games in Italy, with robotic figures filling the lower half of the frame under a green glow. Together with the new poster, that suggests the studio sees the Sentinels as a key selling point.
The X-Men are returning in force. The cast includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Channing Tatum, and they will face the Sentinels alongside the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. The combination of familiar faces and an iconic threat is one reason the crossover has generated so much excitement.
One analysis noted that the Sentinels’ return suggests Wolverine’s actions in ‘Days of Future Past’ may not have stopped their production after all. That adds a layer of history for longtime fans.
The film arrives on December 18 in the US, with Infinity Vision screens leading the premium rollout while ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds the IMAX run. A final trailer is expected in mid-November, and more merchandise and posters are on the way. Each new piece reinforces the idea that Doom is not just a villain but a ruler with an army.
For fans, the poster offers a satisfying payoff to months of teasers. The mutant-hunters are finally here, and they answer to Doom.
