‘Creature Commandos’ Is Coming Back, and David Harbour Already Has Frankenstein’s Lines in the Can
When ‘Creature Commandos’ kicked off James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, nobody quite knew what to expect from a band of incarcerated monsters. The animated series aired from December 5, 2024, to January 9, 2025, and it introduced a cast of misfits that included Frankenstein, the Bride, Weasel and G.I. Robot.
Among them, Eric Frankenstein stood out as a brutish, funny and thoroughly unpleasant take on the classic monster. David Harbour’s performance helped sell a character who begged his creator for a bride, and the season ended with a post-credits scene that confirmed Frankenstein was still alive.
Fans now have official word that he will be back. Speaking with ComicBook while promoting ‘Violent Night 2’, Harbour confirmed that he is returning for ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2, and that he has already recorded at least some of his voiceover for the new episodes.
He also teased what is in store for the group. Harbour told ComicBook that he thinks Gunn’s writing is excellent, that the filmmaker loves these characters, and that “Some of them have some really crazy arcs this season.”
The news arrives during a packed period for the actor. Harbour is also set to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this December in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which means he is about to switch teams from one major franchise to another.
His ‘Violent Night 2’ promotion adds another layer to a busy calendar. For an actor who has made a career of larger-than-life roles, the next stretch looks like a whirlwind, and the recording sessions for Frankenstein are already part of it.

Gunn has said that the new season is set after the events of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2. That placement ties the animated series more closely to the live-action side of the DCU, which gives the new episodes a clearer spot in the shared timeline.
On timing, Gunn has said that ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2 “won’t be long after” the theatrical release of ‘Man of Tomorrow’, which opens on July 9, 2027. That points to the second half of the year, and Gunn has also teased that more DC television projects will follow shortly after.
The core cast is expected to include Indira Varma as the Bride, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk and Zoë Chao, with Viola Davis having voiced Amanda Waller in Season 1. ComicBook also reports that Gunn has revealed another character who will have a big place in the next batch of episodes: King Shark, who returns to the DCU after ‘The Suicide Squad’.
Casting for the new episodes has not been fully detailed, so fans will be watching for further announcements as production moves forward.

Harbour has previously said he expects to play Frankenstein in live-action at some point, and DC Studios executives have said that the voice cast should expect to play their characters in live-action if the franchise makes that leap. He has described his version of the character as wacky, strange and complex, with a mind modeled on the idea of a being created to be an erudite romantic who winds up a monster.
That duality is what made Frankenstein such a surprise in the first season. He is a genuinely horrible guy who is also wildly funny, and Harbour’s performance gave the character a surprising amount of depth.
With the season now in production, Harbour’s confirmation is the clearest sign yet that the long wait is nearly over. Animation is a lengthy process, so any recording progress is an encouraging update for fans. It also suggests the production is moving steadily toward the release window Gunn has described, even though no exact premiere date has been announced.
For fans of the DCU’s weirdest corner, the promise of crazy arcs should be reason enough to stay tuned. And with Frankenstein back in the booth, the show’s most unpredictable monster is ready for another round.
