‘Grimm’ Reboot Movie Officially in the Works at Peacock
Peacock is working on a new movie based on the popular TV show Grimm, which aired on NBC from 2011 to 2017. The supernatural drama is getting a fresh take as a feature film, with Josh Berman, the mind behind Drop Dead Diva, writing and producing it.
He’s teaming up with David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, who created the original series. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner from Hazy Mills Productions, along with Universal Television, are also on board as executive producers.
The movie’s story is still a secret, but it’s expected to link back to the original show while adding new twists. This could make it appealing to both longtime fans and people who’ve never seen Grimm before. Some believe that if the film does well, it might kick off a bigger franchise.
The original series centered on Nick Burkhardt, a Portland detective played by David Giuntoli, who finds out he’s a Grimm—a protector keeping peace between humans and hidden mythical creatures called Wesen.
Grimm ran for six seasons, with over 120 episodes, and built a strong following despite airing on Friday nights, a tough slot for TV shows. The cast included standout performers like Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, and Bree Turner.
The show wasn’t a one-off success either—it nearly got a spinoff in 2018 about a female Grimm, but that project stalled. Now, the movie offers a new chance to dive back into this unique world.
No release date has been set yet, but Peacock seems confident that Grimm’s mix of magic, danger, and mystery still has a pull. Whether it brings back old characters or introduces fresh ones, the film aims to capture what made the series special to so many viewers.
In my opinion, this movie is a smart move. Grimm always had a loyal fanbase, and a film could reignite that excitement while pulling in new people who missed it the first time around. It’s a chance to expand the story without the pressure of a full series, though I hope they keep the gritty charm that made the show work. What do you think about bringing Grimm back as a movie?
