The Wait Is Over, The Punisher Season Two Lands On Netflix January…

Punisher Season Two

I just don’t know how to feel. On one hand, Netflix is moving forward with The Punisher, which is awesome. However, on the other hand, it’s almost certainly going to meet the same fate as Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist

Marvel and Netflix have made it abundantly clear that their relationship is nearing its end. First Iron Fist fell, followed by Luke Cage. Then, to the surprise of the entire world, Daredevil was put on the chopping block. You don’t need to be able to see the future to know that the end of Marvel on Netflix is on the horizon.

Only Jessica Jones and The Punisher remain.

Maybe I’m being too hard on it but it’s hard to get excited to watch a show that will probably be canceled. Right? I mean, it’s like watching a football game and already knowing that the home team loses.

Don’t get me wrong, the first season of The Punisher was pretty good. It had action, blood, violence, and everything else that Frank Castle is known for. And I’m sure that the second season will deliver much of the same. But still…it’s hard to get excited.

I suppose that the show must go on. And on it will go.

The Punisher season two

A little while back Netflix announced that The Punisher season two will hit the world sometime in January. They just didn’t announce exactly when.

Until now.

We now have that information. The Punisher season two will make its debut January 18th.

Season two will see Frank Castle battle his once friend, now enemy Billy Russo (Jigsaw) and a new villain, John Pilgrim. As good as Russo is as a villain, it’s Pilgrim that poses the most interesting conundrum.

Of the character, the man charged with the creative direction of the show, Steve Lightfoot said this, “He’s a guy who has a propensity for violence — that is within him — and has just looked for something to belong to, that is worthy of his honor.”

And continued with, “So, on the one hand, he’s a very honorable, loyal, trustworthy guy and you would absolutely want him on your side, but, you know, the thing he has chosen to believe in — and if you like the people that he has chosen to believe in — weren’t necessarily the best choice…”

Finally, “And in many ways, to me, he is a mirror for Frank, in that, in the end, he’s a guy who probably — as Frank had in Season 1 — put his loyalties in the wrong place, but having put his loyalties there, he’s going to do everything he can to make sure they win and Frank, unfortunately, is on the other side of that.”

John Pilgrim

By all accounts, John Pilgrim should take the show deeper than the first season. The first season was riddled, for the betterment of the world, with PTSD undertones. It saw Frank Castle come to terms and deal with the tragic murder of his family and cope with adjusting to civilian life after a life filled with war.

Maybe I’m wrong but John Pilgrim May very well be the best villain not named Wilson Fisk to hit Netflix since Purple Man.

The Punisher season two comes to Netflix January 18th and you can bet I’ll be there watching it…even if I’m drying my tears as I do it.

Cheers,

Joel
