The next movie in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune series is getting bigger, and it just added two important new faces. According to Nexus Point News, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke will play the roles of Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides and Chani.

This marks Nakoa-Wolf’s first-ever acting role, and he’ll actually be starring alongside his real-life dad, Jason Momoa, who is returning to play Duncan Idaho.

In this movie, Duncan comes back in a new form known as a “ghola,” brought to life by a character named Scytale, played by Robert Pattinson. Ida Brooke, who fans might recognize from Silo and The Primrose Railway Children, will be taking on the role of Ghanima.

The twins first appeared at the very end of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah as newborns. Later, in the follow-up book Children of Dune, they’re around nine years old and play a big role in challenging their aunt Alia and the Corrino family. Leto II eventually becomes emperor and later returns in God Emperor of Dune in a strange half-human, half-sandworm form.

In the upcoming movie, the twins will already be teenagers thanks to a time jump. There’s no word yet on how far forward the story jumps, but it may show that Villeneuve is combining parts of Children of Dune with Dune Messiah for the film’s story.

Filming for Dune 3 is expected to begin in July and continue through the end of the year. Denis Villeneuve will once again write and direct, continuing the story he started in the first two movies. The cast includes returning stars like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Villeneuve has said for a while that he wants to make a third Dune movie based on Dune Messiah. He started working on the script in 2023 and by early 2024, it was nearly finished. But he said he’s taking his time with it. “I want to make sure that if we go back there a third time I want it to be good and I want it to be even better than Part Two,” he told reporters.

He also mentioned that the story takes place 12 years after the first book, so he might wait for Chalamet to look a bit older. Dune 3 will also feature music by Hans Zimmer, who started writing the score even before the movie was announced. Villeneuve reportedly dropped a copy of Dune Messiah on Zimmer’s desk as a quiet hint that the next chapter was coming.

The new film is being developed by Villeneuve and Legendary, with plans to release it on December 18, 2026. While Villeneuve has said this will be his last Dune film, he’s also open to someone else continuing the story in future movies. “They are beautiful books. They become more difficult to adapt. I will not do it myself, but it could happen with someone else,” he said in an interview last year.

For now, fans can look forward to the return of the Dune universe, with new characters, more epic battles, and a family legacy that spans across time.
