Dave Bautista is set to join the cast of the upcoming sequel to Amazon MGM’s action film “Road House,” sources told Nexus Point News. While many details about the story are still secret, Bautista is expected to play a former fighter, a role similar to Jake Gyllenhaal’s character from the first movie.

The new film will bring in mostly new characters, meaning most of the original cast probably won’t return. Guy Ritchie, who directed hits like “Sherlock Holmes” and “The Gentlemen,” will take the director’s seat for this sequel. The screenplay is being written by Will Beall, known for his work on “Aquaman” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”

Bautista is familiar with action movies, having transitioned from a long career in WWE wrestling to acting. He’s known for roles in popular movies such as the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, “Dune,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Army of the Dead,” and “Glass Onion.”

The first “Road House” remake came out in 2024, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys. The film, directed by Doug Liman, also featured Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, and Billy Magnussen. It premiered at the South by Southwest festival and was later released on Prime Video.

Back in early 2024, Gyllenhaal showed interest in returning for a sequel, and by May, the project was officially confirmed. Amazon MGM’s Jennifer Salke said the sequel is actively being developed. Reports in April 2025 revealed that Guy Ritchie was in talks to direct, and later that month, he was officially confirmed.

The first film received mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes shows a 60% positive rating from critics with an average score of 5.6 out of 10. The site described it as a modern update of a cult classic that focuses more on action than on story. Metacritic’s score was 57 out of 100, reflecting average reviews.

This sequel could bring something new with Bautista joining and Ritchie directing. Bautista’s action experience and Ritchie’s distinct style might add fresh energy to the franchise.

Personally, I’m curious to see how this next “Road House” will compare to the first one. The original had mixed reviews but some fans enjoyed its action. What do you think about Bautista joining the cast and Ritchie directing? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
