Back in 2016, Bryan Cranston first shared his interest in a Malcolm in the Middle reunion. By 2021, Frankie Muniz revealed on Steve-O’s podcast that Cranston was actively writing a script for a reunion movie. He also mentioned that most of the original cast was ready to return—except for one unnamed person.

By December 2024, Disney+ officially announced a four-episode ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ revival, with Muniz, Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles.

It’s been reported that the revival series is making some casting changes while bringing back familiar faces. One major update is that Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan, will be recast. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is set to take over the role, marking a significant shift for fans of the original series.

Christopher Masterson (Francis) and Justin Berfield (Reese) are returning to reprise their roles as Malcolm’s older brothers. This suggests that the revival will continue the family’s chaotic dynamic, but with a fresh take on Dewey’s character.

The story will follow Malcolm and his daughter as they attend Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary party. Originally pitched as a two-hour movie, the project was restructured into four 30-minute episodes.

Now industry insider Daniel Richtman revealed that the title of the revival is reportedly “‘MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR’”

Filming for the four-episode miniseries kicked off on April 13, 2025, at Vancouver Film Studios and concluded on May 16. Michael Weaver handled cinematography. The series is set to debut on Disney+ in December 2025.
