A brand-new international Superman trailer is out, and it gives fans an exciting look at some of the powers Clark Kent will use in the upcoming DC Universe film.

One standout moment shows Superman using his Super Breath for the very first time on screen. In the clip, he saves a dog from a massive Kaiju attacking Metropolis by blowing it to safety. It’s a fun and heroic moment that also highlights one of Superman’s often-overlooked abilities.

We also see Superman use his Heat Vision during a fast-paced fight with The Engineer, one of the film’s villains. The scene shows him trying to slow down her attack with powerful beams of heat shot from his eyes, another classic Superman move that fans will recognize.

These scenes offer a glimpse of what kind of superhero this new version of Superman will be, kind, strong, and ready to do the right thing, even in impossible situations.

In the final seconds of the trailer, there’s a small moment of humor. After Superman’s dog, Krypto, makes a mess inside the Fortress of Solitude, Clark simply says, “What the hey?” Director James Gunn seems to be showing us a Superman who’s still a good-hearted Kansas farm boy at heart. This version of Clark doesn’t even swear, adding to his wholesome, honest character.

James Gunn also revealed a new poster for the film, which is now confirmed to be releasing in China next month. The poster includes Superman front and center, but also shows Lex Luthor, the Justice Gang, and familiar faces like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Metamorpho.

The movie is the first Superman film in the new DC Universe (DCU), created by DC Studios. James Gunn is writing and directing it. David Corenswet plays Superman, and the cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and others like Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi.

This movie is not connected to the earlier Superman films starring Henry Cavill. Warner Bros. originally planned to continue that version of the story, but after changes behind the scenes and the problems with Justice League, the studio decided to go in a new direction. Gunn began writing this new take on Superman in 2022, and by 2023 he was confirmed as director.

The film was originally called Superman: Legacy, but the subtitle was dropped earlier this year.

Filming started in Norway and later moved to different parts of Georgia and Ohio, mostly around Trilith Studios in Atlanta. Production wrapped in July. Gunn has said the film takes some ideas from the popular All-Star Superman comic series by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.

The story focuses on Clark Kent trying to balance his life as Superman and his connection to his Earth family in Smallville. While he is an alien from Krypton, Clark was raised on Earth and sees himself as both. That struggle between his two worlds will be at the heart of the movie.

Superman is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.S. on July 11, 2025. It will be the first movie in the new DCU’s Chapter One, called Gods and Monsters.
