Season 2 and Movie Sequel Teased for Star Wars Hit TV Series with 92% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Fans of Star Wars may have more adventures to look forward to, as Jon Watts, the creator behind the popular series Skeleton Crew, has hinted at a possible second season and even a spinoff movie.
The first season, which came out over six months ago, introduced viewers to a group of young explorers from the planet At Attin traveling across the galaxy.
In a recent chat with Steve Weintraub from Collider at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts dropped some clues about what’s next for the show. He said, “I love Star Wars, and I would love to make more Star Wars. I can’t say anything more. We always get in trouble when we do these interviews. I always say something, and I get in trouble. Like, I probably shouldn’t have said that. […] You’re going to get me in trouble.” This suggests he’s eager to continue the story but has to keep some details under wraps.
Watts also shared his thoughts on the bigger Star Wars future. He feels optimistic because he’s working closely with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who are both heavily involved in Star Wars movies. He explained, “The two people that I worked with, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, as my main producers on Skeleton Crew, both made Star Wars movies. Well, Dave hasn’t made his yet. Favreau made his, so I know that’s for sure. So, it was like, ‘If we have something we want to make, we’re gonna make it.’ I don’t know about the rest of the development process and the people who come in, and how large the Star Wars universe is, but at least in our little umbrella of Star Wars, our corner of the Star Wars sandbox, we were able to do things. Even if I worked on a Star Wars thing and it never happened, it’s really fun to just use your imagination and make up fun things that could happen in Star Wars.”
Skeleton Crew was praised by many fans, especially because it brought a fresh, hopeful story during a time when opinions about Star Wars were quite divided. The show’s focus on young heroes added a new and exciting flavor to the franchise.
That said, creating a new season or a film isn’t without challenges. The young cast members are growing up fast, so the creators would need to act quickly if they want to keep the story’s youthful feel. Plus, one of the main actors, Ryan Keira Armstrong, has recently taken a lead role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which could make scheduling tricky.
Still, there’s reason to believe more Skeleton Crew content is possible. A new Star Wars galaxy map recently showed At Attin, the home planet of the young heroes, located near Grand Admiral Thrawn’s base. This could hint at storylines coming in future projects.
Personally, I’m excited about the chance to see more of Skeleton Crew. The show brought something new and fun to Star Wars, and I hope the team manages to continue it. What do you think about a new season or a movie? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
