The monthly Captain America series is being relaunched with a brand-new creative team and a fresh story that takes readers back to the early days of Steve Rogers, right after he was thawed from the ice and woke up in the modern world. According to Marvel, the new story will even explore the first time Captain America meets Doctor Doom.

The comic is being written by Chip Zdarsky, who fans might know from his work on Batman and Daredevil. He’s teaming up again with artist Valerio Schiti and colorist Frank Martin, who all previously worked together on Marvel 2-in-One back in 2017. Zdarsky says he’s excited to explore Cap’s character in a deeper way, similar to how he handled Daredevil.

The new story begins with Steve Rogers rejoining the U.S. Army and being sent on a mission alongside the Howling Commandos. Their job? To sneak into Latveria, which has just been taken over by a young Doctor Doom. While the series will eventually shift to modern-day Marvel events, Zdarsky hinted that these early missions will play a big role in the overall story.

But aside from the big plot points, Zdarsky is also getting attention for something a bit sillier.

During a recent fan Q&A with Captain America Comic Book Fans, Zdarsky was asked a tongue-in-cheek question about Steve Rogers’ s-x life. This isn’t a new topic—fans and even Marvel’s own shows have joked about whether or not Captain America has ever had s-x.

In the She-Hulk TV series, it was actually part of the storyline. So when someone asked Zdarsky if Cap cries during s-x, they were calling back to a similar joke Zdarsky once made about Daredevil.

In that earlier joke, Zdarsky had said Daredevil “cries before and after s-x but during s-x he has a f**** job to do.”*

As for Cap? Zdarsky first joked, “Steve Rogers doesn’t have s-x. What’s wrong with her? He’s waiting for marriage.” But then he added, “No, Steve Rogers has had s-x, I can canonically say that. That would be a little weird if he didn’t.”

He went on to say, “I will say he does not cry during s-x. But unfortunately, one of the things he does during s-x is salute. So sometimes, it hurts his partner and he feels really bad about it. And maybe he cries at that point. I don’t know.”

It’s all clearly a joke, but it shows how much fun Zdarsky has with the characters, even when the subject matter gets a little ridiculous.

Captain America’s personal life, including whether or not he’s ever been in a relationship, has been the subject of many debates over the years. With the new series on the way, and Zdarsky at the helm, it looks like fans can expect not just action and drama, but also a healthy dose of humor.
