Christopher Nolan is back with a huge new movie called The Odyssey, and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest projects of his career. It’s a film version of the famous ancient Greek poem, and it tells the story of Odysseus, a Greek king trying to get home after the Trojan War.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, and the movie follows his long, dangerous trip back to Ithaca as he faces monsters, gods, and strange lands along the way.

Tom Holland is also part of the cast. He plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, and he recently shared how much the experience meant to him.

In an interview, he said, “It was amazing. The job of a lifetime, without a doubt. The best experience I’ve had on the film set.” He added, “It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”

Holland also praised working with Nolan and his producing partner Emma Thomas. “I’ve never seen someone that can work the way that they do, and there is a reason why they’re the best in the business,” he said.

He spoke highly of Damon and Anne Hathaway too, saying, “Matt Damon has always been a hero of mine, Anne Hathaway has always been a hero of mine. So to share scenes with them, to learn from them, to become friends with them, I couldn’t have asked for a better job.”

After Oppenheimer became a massive hit, Nolan started working on The Odyssey. By October 2024, it was confirmed that he was teaming up again with Universal Pictures. The full cast was announced in December, and it’s packed with talent. Alongside Damon and Holland, the movie features Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron (who plays the witch-goddess Circe), and Jon Bernthal, among many others.

Production on the movie began in February 2025, starting in Morocco. The crew traveled all over the world to film, including Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and the United States. In Greece, they filmed at real historical sites and coastal locations like Pylos and Nestor’s Cave.

Some scenes involving the Cyclops Polyphemus were filmed there as well. The movie also shot in parts of Sicily, Scotland’s coastlines, and even remote areas of Iceland. Scenes were also filmed in Los Angeles, and more shooting is expected in the UK and Ireland.

Nolan is known for working with IMAX, and this time he’s taken it even further. The Odyssey is being shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, making it the first blockbuster ever to do so. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who worked with Nolan on Oppenheimer and Dunkirk, is back behind the camera. The production budget is reported to be around $250 million, which makes this the most expensive movie Nolan has ever made.

The Odyssey is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026. With its mix of mythology, action, and stunning real-world locations, it’s expected to be a major event. And with actors like Tom Holland so excited to be part of it, fans are already getting hyped for what could be Nolan’s most epic film yet.
