Google is now making movies and shows, but not the way most people might think. Instead of bringing back YouTube Originals or filling films with product placements, the company has started something new called 100 Zeros.

This project is being done with Range Media Partners and its goal is pretty clear: Google wants people to think tech is cool again.

Business Insider reports that 100 Zeros is not a real movie studio but works inside Google’s Platforms & Devices team , the same team that handles Android. The idea is to create stories that show new technologies, like AI and digital devices, in a positive light. They want people to feel good about the future, not scared of it. The name 100 Zeros comes from the word “googol”, which is the number one followed by one hundred zeros.

Google isn’t using its own platforms like YouTube for this plan. Instead, they’re working with streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and Apple TV+. They want to team up with Hollywood experts to make shows and movies that can change how people think about technology. People like Penny Lin, Casey Durant, and Tony Nguyen from Range Media are helping run things, while Rachel Douglas manages the partnership. On Google’s side, the project is led by Jonathan Zepp.

Rachel Douglas explained the idea to Business Insider, saying, “This initiative is different in that it’s staffed by full-time people who come out of Hollywood and are housed at and supported by Range.”

Even though not many people know about 100 Zeros yet, it has already started working. One of its first projects was a small horror movie called Cuckoo. It starred Hunter Schafer from the show Euphoria. The movie opened with the 100 Zeros logo, showing that Google wants to connect with younger viewers.

Google and Range have also started something called AI On Screen, where they create short films about AI. Two films are already in progress: Sweetwater, a story about an AI that answers fan letters for a dead celebrity, and another project called LUCID, though not much is known about that one yet.

Google explained why it started 100 Zeros, saying in a statement, “We’re committed to responsibly supporting creative expression and exploring the possibilities of technology through storytelling.”

For Google, this is not just about making movies. It’s about changing how people feel about technology, one story at a time.
