Superman Smashes Records as 2025’s Top Tuesday Box Office Hit, Flies Past $300 Million Globally
The new Superman movie is off to a flying start in theaters. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and is doing really well at the box office, not just in the US but worldwide too.
Superman made $17.12 million on its first Tuesday in North America, which now makes it the biggest Tuesday release of the year so far. It has already passed other big movies like Lilo & Stitch, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie.
Even though Tuesdays usually have cheaper ticket prices at many theaters, which brings down how much money each ticket earns, Superman still managed to break records. That’s why its Tuesday success matters, it means huge crowds showed up even with discounted tickets.
Compared to Monday’s numbers, Superman made over 30% more on Tuesday. Reports say Monday brought in $12.9 million, and experts believe the jump happened because theaters offered those cheaper Tuesday tickets. This encouraged more people to visit cinemas during the week.
As of July 17, 2025, Superman has made $155 million in the US and Canada. In the rest of the world, it earned another $159.4 million. This brings its total worldwide earnings to $314.5 million after just five days in theaters.
TheWrap reported that the movie needs to make at least $500 million worldwide just to cover its production and other costs. To be considered a real success, it probably needs to reach around $700 million, according to the same source.
The Hollywood Reporter had predicted earlier that Superman could have a $175 million opening weekend in the US and could even make more than $1 billion globally. These predictions were based on how popular the film’s trailer was online. Reports also say the total budget, including marketing, is around $400 million.
Directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first film in his new version of the DC Universe. After years of disappointing DC movies, fans were unsure what to expect, but now both audiences and critics are giving positive reviews. The movie seems to have brought fresh energy to the franchise.
The film was reportedly made with a $225 million budget. Alongside Corenswet and Brosnahan, the cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan in other roles. Superman was released worldwide on July 11 and is now playing in cinemas everywhere.
So far, it looks like this Superman reboot is a big hit and could be just the fresh start DC Studios needed.
