Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the first teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat 2. The new movie is bringing back some of the best fighters from Earthrealm and showing Karl Urban as Johnny Cage for the first time.

The movie is directed by Simon McQuoid and promises even bigger fights and more classic Mortal Kombat scenes. It will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.

Karl Urban, who people know from The Boys and The Lord of the Rings, now takes on the role of Johnny Cage. In the teaser, Johnny Cage does what fans expect—he beats up a group of attackers after one of them breaks his famous sunglasses.

It’s exactly the kind of thing Cage would do, and Urban’s version of the character is already getting fans excited. Warner Bros. is clearly counting on his star power to draw people in.

The cast of Mortal Kombat 2 is a mix of returning fighters and new faces. Karl Urban is joined by Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod. The return of some familiar characters, like Scorpion and Liu Kang, mixed with new ones like Kitana and Jade, should give fans plenty to look forward to.

The new teaser focuses on Johnny Cage in a movie-within-the-movie called “Uncaged Fury.” In typical Cage fashion, a fight breaks out after someone damages his glasses. He fights off an entire group of enemies, showing off his martial arts skills and his over-the-top attitude. The teaser makes it clear that Mortal Kombat 2 will have plenty of action, but it won’t forget Johnny Cage’s sense of humor either.

The main story of Mortal Kombat 2 is still being kept secret, but fans know they’ll see big fights, famous fatalities, and more of the tournament that defines the series. According to Warner Bros., this movie will pick up after the first Mortal Kombat film from 2021. Since Sub-Zero was defeated in that movie, fans believe the new film will focus more on the actual Mortal Kombat tournament, which didn’t happen last time.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to open in theaters in the United States on October 24, 2025. After that, it will roll out worldwide. Fans who want to revisit the story can watch the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, now available on HBO Max.
