Jared Leto Becomes Deadly AI in New ‘Tron: Ares’ Trailer and Poster
Disney has just dropped a new trailer and poster for Tron: Ares, giving fans a fresh look at Jared Leto as the villain of the new sci-fi adventure. The movie is the third film in the famous Tron series and will hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
In this new chapter, Jared Leto plays Ares, a powerful AI program who escapes from the digital world and enters the real one. According to the official synopsis, “‘Tron: Ares’ follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.”
The movie is directed by Joachim Rønning, who also made The Young Woman and the Sea. The screenplay was written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The film also brings back Jeff Bridges, the star of the original 1982 Tron movie, along with new cast members Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Arturo Castro, Hasan Minhaj, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Rønning said working on Tron: Ares felt like “the Holy Grail of computer graphics.” He explained that The Grid, the famous digital world from the earlier films, will be even more important in this story. He also shared that many scenes were designed to look like they were filmed by a machine. In his words, “The concept was that a program is filming a program. So it’s shot by a robot.”
Steven Lisberger, who created the first Tron movie, also spoke with Empire and explained that the franchise has always been about pushing technology forward.
He said, “Something comes out, and it’s too avant-garde at the time. And then the real world catches up with it.” Talking about The Grid, Lisberger said, “We’ve integrated into it, and the speed of it is mind-boggling. And in ‘Ares,’ it’s a metaphor for the fact that this technology is moving through every part of our reality.”
The music for Tron: Ares is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails. Along with the trailer, Disney released the first single from the movie’s soundtrack, called “As Alive As You Need Me To Be.” The full soundtrack will be available on September 19 through Interscope Records.
Leto is also one of the film’s producers, working alongside Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger. Russell Allen is the executive producer.
