The official red-band trailer for Mortal Kombat II is already a huge hit. According to data from WaveMetrix, the trailer was watched 106.8 million times in just the first 24 hours after it was released on July 17. This makes it the most-viewed red-band trailer of all time.

It was shared worldwide, launching in 68 countries and 47 languages at the same time. The movie itself will hit theaters on October 24.

People are clearly still crazy about Mortal Kombat, just like they were in the 1990s when the first movie came out. This sequel, directed by Simon McQuoid, has fans excited and it shows. The trailer’s numbers easily beat past hits like James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Deadpool 2, and even the first Mortal Kombat movie from 2021.

The earlier movie set its own records, pulling in 116 million trailer views during its first week. That film also did well at the box office, opening with $23.3 million in 2021 even though it was also released on HBO Max at the same time. This time, Mortal Kombat II will get a full theatrical release, giving it a chance to perform even better.

Besides the huge view count, the trailer had 2.7 million livestream viewers across platforms like TikTok, YouTube, X, and Twitch. Fans are sharing their excitement online, especially over Karl Urban playing Johnny Cage.

His casting has been getting lots of attention, and fans are loving the return of classic characters like Scorpion. Some even pointed out that “Scorpion’s ‘get over here!’ is already the stuff of fanboy dreams.”

In a fun surprise, Warner Bros. and New Line also created a fake trailer for a movie called Uncaged Fury starring Urban as Johnny Cage. Even that joke trailer got 22.2 million views in just one day.

The new film brings back the fighters from the first movie, with Karl Urban joining them as Johnny Cage. This time, they’re up against Shao Kahn, who threatens the survival of Earthrealm. Fans can expect brutal battles and lots of action.

The movie also features returning stars like Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. New cast members include Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, and Martyn Ford.

Jeremy Slater wrote the script for Mortal Kombat II. It’s produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, and Simon McQuoid himself. So far, the Mortal Kombat movies have made nearly $258 million worldwide.

Mortal Kombat II hits theaters October 24, and if the trailer views are any clue, it’s going to be big.
