Margaret Qualley Shares Disappointing News About Playing Rogue in Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot

Margaret Qualley, a popular choice among fans to play Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie, recently shared some surprising thoughts about joining a big franchise like the MCU.

The movie is set to be directed by Jake Schreier, who is known for the 2025 film Thunderbolts*. Along with Qualley, Keke Palmer is another fan favorite rumored for the role.

During a recent chat on Collider Ladies Night, host Perri Nemiroff asked Qualley if she could join any major franchise, which one would she choose, and who would she want to play?

Qualley responded honestly, saying, “Oh, I don’t think I want to commit to a franchise. It seems like a lot of time, and I’m scared [laughs].” When Nemiroff mentioned the rumors about her playing Rogue in the MCU, Qualley just said, “Oh s****. Okay,” before quickly changing the topic. This reaction hints that she might not be interested in taking on the role after all, rather than trying to keep a secret.

Marvel Studios has been planning to bring mutants and the X-Men into the MCU for a while now.

Back in 2019, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that mutants would appear in the MCU, but the new X-Men would be different from the older Fox movies. As of late 2023 and early 2024, Marvel has been moving forward with developing an X-Men film, with Michael Lesslie set to write the script and Jake Schreier announced as the director after his success with Thunderbolts*.

Feige also revealed that after bringing back some actors from the Fox X-Men movies for the recent Multiverse Saga, this new film will feature a fresh, younger cast to fit the MCU’s new direction after the Secret Wars event. He described the movie as “a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.”

So while fans have high hopes for Margaret Qualley as Rogue, it looks like she might not be ready to jump into the Marvel franchise just yet.
